Ventana Publishes Mosaic Book with Online Companion

New book helps Internet users explore the World Wide Web

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., September 1, 1994 -- Mosaic, the Internet's 'killer
app,' allows Internet users to move seamlessly between documents joined by
hypertext links among far-flung computers that make up the Internet's
World Wide Web. Ventana Press presents Mosaic Quick Tour, the first book
to feature integrated print and online components.

Mosaic Quick Tour gives users a fundamental understanding of Mosaic and the
Web, as well as hands-on instruction for locating, downloading, installing
and using the software to explore both Web and non-Web sites, such as FTP
sites and newsgroups. Mosaic software and related materials are accessible
via the Ventana Media Visitors' Center on the Net.

The book also contains a section on beginning HTML programming, the
"language the Web speaks," and teaches users how to create their own
customized 'Home Page,' adding to the fun and convenience of using the
Web. A comprehensive glossary explains Mosaic and Web terms.

Mosaic Quick Tour concludes with 'Site Seeing,' a guided tour through the
practical and cool places to visit via Mosaic. The Online Companion is
hyperlinked to all of these sites. In addition, Ventana Online maintains
an archive of all of the software mentioned in the book. The URL is

Mosaic is a free software program that provides a visually appealing
interface to the Internet's World Wide Web and allows the user to navigate
the Web. It turns ordinary, computer-bland text into attractive,
multimedia pages for viewing on the computer, with graphic images, fonts,
sounds and, in some cases, video. The World Wide Web is an online
hypertext system that spans the Internet. Hypertext, a non-linear
publishing method, allows users to browse through passages of text,
expanding items of interest on related topics with a simple mouse click.
When expanding an item, users traverse a link to a new item which more
than likely is stored on a different computer, perhaps thousands of miles
away.

Mosaic Quick Tour is 175 pages, illustrated. Mac edition ISBN:
1-56604-195-3. Windows edition ISBN: 1-56604-194-5. List price: $12.00.
