SONIC ANNOUNCES INTELLISTACK 16, STACKABLE HUB WITH SNMP MANAGEMENT

Sunnyvale, CA, November 28, 1994 - Sonic Systems today announced the
IntelliStack family of SNMP manageable, stackable Ethernet hubs with
proprietary ESP technology. The IntelliStack is available in two versions:
a Base version which contains the SNMP architecture and an Expansion
version which stacks on top of the Base unit. Up to 4 IntelliStack 16
Exapansion hubs can be stacked on top of the IntelliStack 16i Base hub to
create one logical hub with 85 ports, all of which can be managed via
SNMP. Sonic Systems' LANScape Lite SNMP console for the Macintosh is
included with each IntelliStack 16i Base hub for complete SNMP
management.

Each IntelliStack hub has sixteen 10Base-T ports and an AUI backbone port.
Sonic offers Thin Coax (10Base-2) and Fiber Optic (10Base-F) backbone
modules which can be attached to the AUI port to connect the IntelliStack
to the network backbone. A Bridge module is also available from Sonic to
segment Ethernet traffic from the IntelliStack workgroup to the network
backbone for increased performance.

IntelliStack hubs utilize Sonic's proprietary Ethernet Stacking Protocol,
or ESP, to quickly and easily stack up to five hubs to create one logical
hub with 85 ports. IntelliStack hubs simply snap together with mating
connectors similar to the NuBus or PDS connectors found in many Macs.

The IntelliStack 16i Base hub, which contains the SNMP architecture, comes
complete with all necessary hardware and software to effectively manage
all of the devices connected to the hub. Up to four IntelliStack Expansion
hubs can be stacked on top of the Base hub to increase the number of
devices connected to the hub. All devices connected to any of the 85 ports
on the IntelliStack can then be managed via the Base hub.

The IntelliStack supports MIB II, the 802.3K Repeater MIB, and a private
Sonic MIB for SNMP management. This allows the IntelliStack to be managed
from any network management application which supports MIB compiling (such
as Sun Microsystems' SunNet Manager or Hewlett Packard's OpenView). A
feature reduced version of Sonic's LANScape SNMP is included with the
IntelliStack Base hub. LANScape Lite SNMP allows the IntelliStack to be
managed from any Macintosh on the network with an easy to use graphical
interface. LANScape's graphical interface can also be used to manage
remote IntelliStack units connected via a modem. LANScape presents a
Topology window of the network and allows the administrator to
enable/disable ports, configure the hub, view and set MIB variables, set
alarms for notification of significant network events, and track MIB
variables to optimize network performance. Users can upgrade to the full
featured version of LANScape SNMP, which can manage any SNMP device via
TCP/IP or AppleTalk, by contacting Sonic.

"The IntelliStack is yet another example of how Sonic can take a complex
product and make it easy to use without sacrificing functionality," said
Sudhakar Ravi, Vice President of Engineering at Sonic. Mr. Ravi continued,
"With features such as ESP and LANScape SNMP, the IntelliStack offers an
easy way to grow and manage any Ethernet network."

The retail price of the IntelliStack 16i Base hub is $1,299 and the
IntelliStack 16 Expansion hub is $999. The retail price of the backbone
modules are $69 for Thin Coax and $299 for Fiber Optic. The retail price
of the Bridge module is $599. Users can upgrade to the full featured
version of LANScape SNMP for $499 by contacting Sonic directly.

The IntelliStack comes with a Lifetime Warranty and unlimited technical
support. All Sonic Systems products are available to end-users from
Authorized Apple Dealers, MacWarehouse, MacConnection, Fry's Electronics,
Mac's Place, MacZone, LLB, and MacMall. Resellers can purchase Sonic
Systems' products from Ingram Micro, Tech Data and Merisel.
