Software Interfaces Announces Breakthrough in Report Writing Technology

* A True Client/Server Report Writer *

Houston, Texas - Software Interfaces has set a new pace in report writing
for client/server environments with the introduction of SQLASSIST
ProReports for MS Windows and X/Motif. SQLASSIST ProReports allows a
report to be created on a client and run on any client or server retaining
the identical formatting attributes. This report writer incorporates all
of the features of both ad hoc and production report writers and is easy
to use for the novice to the expert. It also allows access and reporting
on heterogeneous database data plus other data, all in the same report.

"SQLASSIST ProReports is one of the most comprehensive tools available
today for production reporting. Unlike many competing products, it
combines true host-based batch reporting capabilities necessary for
production systems with the ease-of-use and full graphical and font
support that users expect from Windows and GUI-based reporting tools. In
addition, it provides data manipulation capabilities that are matched only
by much more expensive executive information and analysis systems," says
Mark Hanner of The Meta Group.

"This report writer sets a whole new pace for the 90s," says Rahul Mehta,
President of Software Interfaces. "It is not only optimized to take
advantage of the resource utilization benefits of client/server computing
(i.e., processing load redistribution), but also offers direct business
operations' benefits. With the ability to design a report on any client
and run it on any server and retain the identical fonts and images,
organizations will have unprecedented flexibility and power for all of
their report writing. For example, customized telephone billing reports
can be created on a PC using ProReports for Windows, and sent to any
server attached to a heavy duty printer that can print out the thousands
and thousands of pieces of correspondence required overnight. This new
report writer technology enables all levels of users to create simple to
complex reports like general ledger with the ease of use of a GUI."

ProReports has all of the advanced features of ad hoc and production report
writing systems, yet is still easy to use for the novice to the expert. It
is designed so that everybody in an organization from a simple end user to
a corporate developer can use the same tool to develop reports.
ProReports' intuitive method for building reports shields the beginning
user from ever having to know SQL, and walks the user through the querying
and report generating processes.

Also, ProReports' advanced AI-based rules facility shields the user from
having to know database design. Its sophisticated querying and reporting
capabilities and its object-oriented design allow the user to slice and
dice the report data in innumerable ways.

"ProReports allows all levels of users to do many long desired, but
previously impossible operations without heavy 4GL programming," says
Mehta. "ProReports will make languages like COBOL obsolete for developing
production reports. Now, with the click of a mouse, users can work with
data from different data sources in one report. For example, a user could
combine manufacturing data from ORACLE, purchasing information from DB2,
and forecasting information from Microsoft Access all in a single report.
This technological breakthrough effectively ends the 'inaccessible islands
of information' problem. Data sources can include all of the major RDBMs
through native APIs, plus flat files, text, and images."

Another major feature of ProReports is that it allows the user to perform
multiple queries in the same report. Plus, operations can be performed on
the results of those queries, and these results can then also be
incorporated in the same report. This gives the user an unlimited variety
of ways to easily access, view, analyze, and present information.

"While ProReports sets many new technological standards for report writing
in the 90s, the overlying business advantage is that it offers the
organization the freedom of choice to best match its computing resources
to its business needs," says Mehta. "ProReports is the only report writer
that can offer this level of flexibility and power, now or even in the
next few years."

Data sources accessible natively in this first release include: DB2 (all
members), INFORMIX, INGRES, ORACLE, Rdb/VMS, and SYBASE. Middleware access
will be offered through EDA/SQL, SequeLink, and any ODBC source to
databases such as Paradox, Microsoft Access, dBASE, and more. Initial
client platforms will include: Microsoft Windows 3.1 and NT, and X/Motif
on SunOS, Solaris, HP, and RS/6000. Initial server support will include
SunOS, Solaris, HP, RS/6000, and VAX/VMS. Over the next six months,
support will be added for an expansive variety of desktop servers to large
IBM mainframes.

currently in use by thousands of users in the Fortune 500. SQLASSIST,
Software Interfaces' flagship product, is the leading technology in ad hoc
query and report writing that was recently judged by Dr. Paul Dorsey,
President of the International Ad Hoc Query SIG, to be the best ad hoc
query tool available, "SQLASSIST is a highly polished, well-planned
product... The great number of advanced features made it a winner for
novice and power users," -- Client/Server edition of Information Week, May
