Sybase's Gain Interplay To Support Delivery Of Interactive Consumer
Services Including Video On Demand And Home Shopping

EMERYVILLE, CA, November 30, 1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced that Gain Interplay, Sybase's
interactive multimedia delivery software will support PowerTV,
Scientific-Atlanta's operating system for interactive home communications
terminals. Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. is a world leader in broadband

communications networks. With this announcement, Sybase demonstrates its
commitment to make Gain Interplay a significant software component for the
delivery of interactive consumer information services.

This technology will provide a low cost solution for the delivery of
interactive information necessary to support upcoming interactive
television (ITV) trials, achieving a price point acceptable to network
providers and their customers. Gain Interplay and PowerTV, in combination
with the SYBASE Intermedia product architecture, provide an open and
cost-effective environment for businesses to deliver ITV consumer
services. Intermedia is a highly scalable and interoperable software
architecture for interactive multimedia systems on the market today. The
SYBASE Intermedia products, Gain Momentum, Gain Interplay and Intermedia
Server provide a modular end-to-end architecture for authoring, delivering

Sybase's Gain Interplay is a specialized software product for delivering
interactive applications on inexpensive TV set top boxes and home PCs. It
provides set top operating systems such as PowerTV the capability to send

data in multimedia applications authored with tools such as Sybase's Gain
Momentum.
