Software Publishing Introduces OnFile

Offers Windows Users a Hassle-Free, Fun Solution for Organizing and Finding
Their Files

SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 12, 1994 -- Software Publishing Corporation
today introduced OnFile, a new product that helps Windows users organize
and quickly find their files. OnFile offers an easy and fun-to-use
notebook metaphor that lets business or home computer users organize their
files by project, file type, or any way they prefer. By providing users
with detailed file descriptions and visual snapshots, OnFile addresses the
complexity of using Windows subdirectories to organize files. OnFile is
designed to complement existing Windows software applications, including
suite offerings.

"Finally, there's a better way for me to organize and find my files," said
Howard Schmidt, an OnFile beta tester. "Before using OnFile, I would waste
countless hours searching through my subdirectories for files. Now, it's
all organized for me in a neat book that includes file descriptions in
plain English and small pictures to help me quickly identify what's in my
hundreds of files. I'm even using it at home to organize my personal
files."

OnFile lets users create an unlimited number of books stored in a Bookshelf
for quick access. Each book contains different chapters that are divided
by colored tabs. Since flexibility is key, users can customize the names
and colors of the tabs according to their own personal filing system. A
table of contents and index also make it easy to find a specific file.

The chapters in OnFile provide detailed information, such as long file
names, summary text descriptions, and miniature pictures of the files or
the associated program icons, so that users can quickly recognize their
files. To access files, users simply double-click on the filename, and
OnFile automatically launches the application and opens the file.

"One of the biggest frustrations many users encounter is not being able to
find a specific file on their computer," said Irfan Salim, president and
chief executive officer of Software Publishing Corporation. "OnFile offers
a unique visual solution that helps users spend more time working on new
projects, rather than looking for old files."

To speed up the process of organizing files, OnFile offers an innovative
capability called AutoBook that searches users' existing files on their
hard disk and creates a book. Users have the option of organizing their
files by program type or by subdirectory. AutoBook also automatically
creates 250-character summary descriptions for text files, saving yet
another step in file organization. Once OnFile creates a book,
customization is easy. Users can quickly add new files by using
AutoUpdate, or they can simply drag and drop files into a specific
chapter.

Quickly Viewing Any File

In addition to organizing files, OnFile also offers users a quick way to
look at files without having to open the associated application, or
without having the program installed on their computer. A built-in File
Viewer supports more than 50 of the most common file formats, so users can
quickly review a word processing document, spreadsheet, presentation, or
other file type. The File Viewer is up to five times faster than launching
an application to view a file. While in the File Viewer, users can also
print files, copy text and search for key words.

Staying Organized, Even on the Go

With OnFile, users can copy their books onto a floppy disk for use at work,
home, or on the road. The product automatically synchronizes files to
ensure that the user is always working with the most up-to-date
information. Users can also send entire books, chapters, or individually
selected files via e-mail to others. For networked users this can save
time, since it no longer requires them to search through different
subdirectories when attaching files.

Pricing, Availability & System Requirements

OnFile will be available by the end of December 1994 for an estimated
street price of $49. The product offers a 90-day money-back guarantee, and
30 days of free technical support (from the first call). OnFile requires a
386 or higher IBM-PC or compatible, 4 MB of RAM, 4 MB hard disk space, VGA
or higher display, mouse, DOS 5.0 or higher and Windows 3.1.
