IBM Network Performance Modeler (NetModeler) for OS/2 is a modeling
application providing performance results quickly and accurately using
advanced analytics, developed with several leading universities. Its
object-oriented design advances the state-of-the-art in modeling.

Network specialists and administrators, service providers, consultants, and
developers can use NetModeler to assist them in capacity planning and
performance analysis. NetModeler supports all types of networks, including
client/server, distributed, and mainframe-based environments.

To reduce the investment in complex systems and networks, it is important
to predict performance, and plan for needed resources at the right time.
NetModeler allows users to validate designs before they become reality. It
helps identify potential network bottlenecks, analyze the impact of
changes to the network, determine when and where upgrades are needed,
answer 'what if' questions, and shortens development cycles.

With NetModeler, users easily create, modify, share, and execute models at
various levels of complexity. For example, users create models to
represent components, devices, collections of devices, or networks. Users
also take advantage of the many models provided with the product including
both generic and product specific models. NetModeler automatically builds
workloads based on actual network traffic through a data import feature
from several leading network analyzers. There is also a data export
facility for exporting statistics to ASCII files for use in a spreadsheet
or other application.

NetModeler increases the ability for persons to perform:

Capacity Planning - Plan network requirements and analyze changes to the
network before implementation.

Performance Analysis - Pinpoint network bottlenecks, determine areas of
slow response, and benchmark the network's devices and applications.

Software/Hardware Design & Analysis - Identify performance problems during
design when the cost associated with fixing such problems is low. Evaluate
different designs and avoid costly changes later.

Network Design - Analyze and evaluate network design alternatives and
identify critical network paths. This simplifies the network design
process, thus reducing required skills and lowering cost.

Price: $20,000 per copy. Universities and Colleges who qualify for
IBM's National Education License Fee (NELF) discount may buy
the product for $5,000. (Figures represent US dollars.)
