First Jumperless IEEE 488.2 Controller Board Features Hardware
Compatibility with Plug and Play ISA Standard

December 19, 1994 -- Austin, TX - National Instruments announced today a
Plug and Play ISA version of its high-performance IEEE 488.2 controller
board for computers with 16-bit ISA plug-in slots. The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP),
which is completely software configurable, is compatible with both Plug
and Play and non-Plug and Play computer systems. The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP)
includes the company's NI-488.2 driver software for DOS and Windows, and
is compatible with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and LabWindows application
software packages. A PC equipped with the AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) becomes a
high-performance IEEE 488.2 Controller used to monitor, control, and
communicate with thousands of GPIB-based engineering, scientific, or
medical instruments, and graphics equipment.

About the AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP)

The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) performs the basic Talker, Listener, and Controller
functions required by all versions of the IEEE 488 (GPIB) standards and
implements HS488 high-speed data transfers that can exceed 3.4 Mbytes/s on
the EISA bus for both read and write operations. For standard IEEE 488
transfers, rates can attain 1.5 Mbytes/s. The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) is
designed for true Plug and Play operation in Plug and Play-compatible
systems. In a fully compatible Plug and Play system, the hardware settings
are automatically configured on power up, so the user does not have to
worry about hardware configuration details. For non-Plug and Play systems,
the AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) offers a completely jumperless solution - hardware
configuration is accomplished through the NI-488.2 configuration utility.

Programming Options

The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) kit includes the company's NI-488.2 driver software
for DOS and Windows. The NI-488.2 software simplifies GPIB system
programming, shortens development time, and offers the flexibility to
handle any GPIB application. The NI-488.2 software includes two sets of
functions. The NI-488.2 routines duplicate the protocols and sequences
found in the IEEE 488.2 standard. The NI-488 functions are a de facto
industry standard. NI-488.2 for both DOS and Windows includes a full set
of development utilities, including a GPIB monitor, an interactive
debugger, configuration utility, and a suite of sample programs. NI-488.2
for Windows has been recently enhanced to include a new Windows-based GPIB
configuration utility, an on-line NI-488.2 Function Reference manual, and
a GPIB monitor utility that captures GPIB data and status information.

Pricing and Availability

The AT-GPIB/TNT (PnP) will be available in January 1995 for $495. For more
