LAN Intensive Care Utilities Released for IBM LAN Server 3.0/4.0

"Finally, a comprehensive set of tools for IBM LAN Server Administrators"

Monday, November 28, 1994 -- BEVERLY HILLS, CA - Lieberman and Associates
announce the immediate availability of the LAN Intensive Care Utilities
(LANICU) for IBM LAN Server 3.0/4.0. This is the first product
specifically designed to administrate, diagnose, and repair problems
within IBM LAN Server.

The package includes an exporter, importer, analyzer, and conversion
utilities. The exporter and importer programs allow users, groups,
aliases, public applications, and access controls to be moved from domain
to domain. The analyzer uses artificial intelligence rules to check all
user accounts and repair problem accounts. The analyzer implements a
corporate-wide security and resource assignment policy based on group
memberships and operator privileges. The conversion utility allows Domain
Definition Reports from LAN Server 1.0 and 2.0 to be used to build a new
LAN Server 3.0 or 4.0 domains.

"When a LAN grows beyond a few dozen users, it becomes tedious doing the
administration. If the administrator has 500 users, there is no practical
way to check all of the accounts. Using our package, mass administration
can be automated" says Philip Lieberman, owner of Lieberman and
Associates. "By using artificial intelligence techniques, our package can
perform the tedious checking and repair of accounts that no human could
endure."

Lieberman goes on to explain that most users are shocked at the number of
problems found in their domains when they first run the LAN ICU package.
Fortunately, they find that the package normally and gracefully corrects
the problems found. "We have found some domains with over 25% of their
accounts containing corruption. The problems manifest themselves as
missing logon assignments and spurious error messages that cannot be
tracked down with any other tools." Lieberman said.

Once all of the problems on the LAN have been corrected, the batch exporter
and importer take care of the day-to-day work of LAN administration. "We
have gone back a step in user interfaces and created a simple ASCII file
format that allows for the quick and easy creation of user accounts and
network resources. While GUIs look great, they take longer to perform
administration, and they are prone to mistakes. Our batch editing method
allows hundreds of user accounts to be created or migrated in minutes--all
created perfectly with all of their logon assignments and group
permissions in place" said Lieberman. The batch editor is capable of doing
mass edits on user accounts, aliases, groups, and access controls based on
resource names (subdirectories) and user/group accounts.

The product sells for $970.00 per copy and is licensed on a per domain
basis. Lieberman and Associates offer site licensing and substantial
discounts for quantity purchases. Product is immediately available from
stock. Vendor provides demo copies of software on Compuserve
(OS2DF2/Library 3/ICULAN.ZIP), IBMLINK (OS2BBS1/OS2VENDOR/LANICU), or
Lieberman and Associates BBS (310-550-5980) ICUDEMO.ZIP (Area B). A free
demo diskette can be also be requested from Lieberman and Associates.

The LANICU product has been certified as "Ready for LAN Server!" and "
Available and Ready for OS/2!" by IBM. Lieberman and Associates is a
member of IBM's "Team LAN Server" and "Premier DAP".
