IPLab Gel Now Native for PowerMacintosh, Major New Capabilities Added

(Vienna, Virginia -- November 15, 1994) Signal Analytics has announced a
major update to IPLab Gel, its densitometry and gel analysis software for
the Macintosh. IPLab Gel version 1.5 contains powerful, easy-to-use
commands specifically designed for performing densitometry and component
sizing on electrophoretic gel images, and with This update, adds major new
functional capabilities as well as the ability to run in native mode on
the PowerMacintosh.

PowerMacintosh Support

In addition to compatibility with the Macintosh II, Centris, and Quadra
computer families, IPLab Gel v1.5 also features a native version which
supports the PowerMacintosh 6100, 7100 and 8100. This new PowerMac version
of IPLab Gel is able to fully exploit the new computers' power by markedly
increasing the speed of computationally intensive operations.

Molecular Weight Calibration

In addition to its previous capabilities for one- and two-dimensional
density analysis on electrophoretic gel images, IPLab Gel can determine
molecular weights associated with bands within a gel image. Molecular
weights are determined by matching band positions against user-defined
standards.

New Drawing Tools

IPLab Gel now features special tools for drawing moveable objects into
color overlays. The objects can be used to define bands of interest for
analysis, and to annotate gel images for publication and documentation. A
new Export command saves annotated images as PICT files that preserve the
high resolution overlay drawings.

Enhanced Capabilities

The software also has enhanced support for large image files, now requiring
40% less memory to open some images. IPLab Gel reads standard PICT and
TIFF files as well as Molecular Dynamics' PhosphorImager data files. IPLab
Gel performs all processing and analysis on images with 8 bits per pixel,
as well as 12-16 bits per pixel images. This feature allows users to take
full advantage of the additional density information which is provided by
the latest 12-bit scanners.

IPLab Gel version 1.5 is now shipping at a price of $850. Free updates are
available to registered users of previous versions.
