"Dharma Moves Data Integration To The Desktop With ODBC Integrator"

NASHUA, NH, November 1, Dharma Systems, Inc., today announced ODBC
Integrator, a new client-based product that moves data integration
capabilities to the desktop. Unlike previous data integration products,
ODBC Integrator works on PCs and makes distributed ODBC data sources
appear as one data source. It also provides the capability to join data
transparently between multiple data sources. Today's announcement
reinforces Dharma's ongoing commitment to provide users with comprehensive
open database solutions.

The move to client/server computing has provided many benefits to users:
the most important is easy access to business information from the
desktop. Client/Server computing, however, has resulted in the
distribution of corporate data between multiple disparate databases.
Corporate information is now distributed between desktops, LAN file
servers, Unix servers, and mainframes. Corporate information is also
distributed in legacy applications and platforms. This data distribution
has created the need for making this complex database environment look and
behave as a single, unified database.

Data integration products have traditionally been developed and licensed as
server oriented products from both database vendors and Middleware
vendors. The server-oriented characteristics which are common to all these
products include the cost (typically ranging between $50,000 to $500,000),
the high level of system integration skills required, and the need for
full time system administration to manage the products.

Dharma's ODBC Integrator introduces a new approach to data integration;
i.e., the use of the desktop to integrate data. The differences between
server-oriented data integration and client-oriented data integration are
lower cost, lower integration skills, and lower administration costs.

ODBC Integrator

The ODBC Integrator is targeted as a data integration middleware product
for desktops. The ODBC Integrator works with all ODBC drivers and tools to
provide the following data integration functionality.

Data Access: The ODBC Integrator makes distributed ODBC data sources appear
as one data source to applications.

Data Synthesis: The ODBC Integrator provides the capability to join data
transparently between multiple data sources.

Data Synchronization: The ODBC Integrator manages synchronization of data
between a laptop/desktop and a server database.

Data Warehousing: The ODBC Integrator allows users to move data subsets
from server databases to the personal workstation for local analysis.

"The ODBC Integrator provides the core functionality to build a wide range
of sophisticated applications on the desktop/laptop," said J. Sasidhar,
president, Dharma Systems, Inc. "The ODBC Integrator makes data
integration affordable by making it a desktop software purchase rather
than a server-based software purchase."

Pricing and Availability

Dharma's ODBC Integrator for Windows 3.1 will be available in the first
quarter of 1995. Pricing of the ODBC Integrator is $400 per user.

Dharma Systems

Dharma Systems provides SQL-based solutions that open databases. For
non-SQL data sources we provide SQL and ODBC technology. For SQL data
sources we provide ODBC integration: joins across multiple databases, data
synchronization, and data warehousing.
