An Easy-to-Follow AutoLISP Tutorial

Ventana updates popular step-by-step guide for Release 13

CHAPEL HILL, N.C., November 28, 1994 -- Ventana Press announces AutoLISP in
Plain English: A practical guide for non-programmers, completely revised
and updated for AutoCAD Release 13, now bundled with a disk of AutoLISP
routines and drawings. A tutorial into two parts, one for novices and one
for experienced AutoCAD users, the book teaches users how to write
customized programs controlling every aspect of their drawings.

AutoLISP in Plain English assumes readers know little or nothing about
AutoLISP or programming. Veteran AutoCAD author George O. Head provides
dozens of well-documented examples that have readers creating customized
text entry programs, making global changes in their drawings and writing
programs that eliminate excessive steps in various drawing situations, all
in a short time. A working AutoLISP program illustrating each point is
dissected throughout each chapter, and further examples appear at the end
of each chapter.

Six new chapters on advanced techniques feature a section on Extended
Entity Data and provide instruction on working with files, tables and
advanced list construction; error checking; and working with strings,
advanced entity manipulations and associative codes.

Additional chapters in AutoLISP in Plain English include useful tips and
tricks for programming, testing and debugging, and fifteen ready-to-run
programs showing AutoLISP in action. Appendices address how to modify
AutoCAD's ACAD.PGP file and set up a prototype drawing file.

"Most AutoCAD users want to use AutoLISP to solve everyday drawing
problems--without investing their careers in becoming an AutoLISP expert,"
commented Head. "Fortunately, creating AutoLISP programs doesn't have to
be a difficult, confusing endeavor. AutoLISP can be taught in plain
English and anyone can understand it."

The enclosed Companion Disk includes programs from each chapter, sample
entities and blocks, and seven additional programs.

A unique feature of AutoLISP in Plain English is its Online Companion,
developed by Ventana Online and residing on Ventana's World Wide Web
server. The Online Companion provides access to an archive of free AutoCAD
programs available on the Internet and hot links to other Internet CAD
resources. The URL for the AutoLISP in Plain English Online Companion is
http://www.vmedia.com/autolisp.html.

AutoLISP in Plain English is the latest volume in Ventana Press's AutoCAD
Reference Library. The other volumes, also scheduled for Release 13
updates, include 1,000 AutoCAD Tips and Tricks, AutoCAD: A concise guide
to commands & features, The AutoCAD 3D Companion and The AutoCAD
Productivity Book.

AutoLISP in Plain English: A practical guide for non-programmers, is 352
pages, illustrated, with disk and an Online Companion. ISBN:
1-56604-140-6. Suggested retail price: $27.95. For orders in the U.S.
