CUPERTINO, California--December 12, 1994 -- Apple Computer, Inc. today
announced availability of AppleSearch Version 1.5, the latest update to
its easy-to-use information search and retrieval application software. The
new update has expanded AppleSearch software's cost-effective capabilities
to search and find information on local-area networks (LANs) to include
navigating and finding information residing on the Internet.

Significance:

AppleSearch v1.5 allows users to easily access and find information on LANs
and on the Internet's Wide-Area Information Servers (WAIS) through a
single access point---without tying-up individual desktop computers. This
provides organizations with a way to allow all of their AppleSearch users
to share Internet access and functionality without having to connect each
user separately.

Using AppleSearch v1.5, system administrators can also pre-select the WAIS
servers that contain the most relevant information for a particular
department or organization. This saves time by focusing the scope of
searches to the applicable sources on the Internet.

AppleSearch is also more affordable with a new site license that allows
organizations to make unlimited copies of the AppleSearch client software
at their sites without incurring additional cost.

Availability, Pricing and Upgrades:

AppleSearch v1.5 and software upgrades for current AppleSearch customers
are available now through authorized Apple resellers in the U.S.
AppleSearch v1.5 has a suggested retail price in the U.S. of $1,799 and
includes both client and server software with a license to copy unlimited
AppleSearch client software at a single site.

For customers who purchased AppleSearch 1.0 on or after July 1, 1994, an
upgrade to AppleSearch v1.5 is available from Apple at no charge beyond
shipping and handling expenses. For customers who purchased AppleSearch
1.0 prior to July 1, 1994, an upgrade to AppleSearch v1.5 is available in
the U.S. for $99 plus a shipping and handling charge. To purchase an
upgrade, please call 1-800-769-2775 (x5921). Proof of purchase is
required.
