Tribe Ships TribeLink, 100% PPP Based Remote Access Server

ALAMEDA, Calif -- Tribe Computer Works, a leading supplier of
high-performance packet switching hubs and multi-protocol bridges, has
shipped its first product for the growing remote networking market.
TribeLink gives remote Macintosh, PC and UNIX users eight ports of
high-speed access to AppleTalk and TCP/IP networks over standard phone
lines. Based on industry standard Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), TribeLink
offers powerful security features, SNMP management, and convenient use of
existing modems--for under $2,000. Upgradable to support Dial-out,
LAN-to-LAN routing and Novell IPX protocol, TribeLink perform all remote
networking functions in one low-cost unit.

"I was initially interested in a TribeLink because of the price and it's
cross-platform compatibility." commented Scott Suss, the Technology
Specialist at Green Valley AEA, a company that provides support services
to over twenty remote rural school districts in the midwest. "After
installing it and using PPP to make connections, I realized how much
faster it was than using ARA and a LanRoverL."

TribeLink ships with many standard features and is upgradable to meet the
changing needs of remote networking. TribeLink's advanced design allows
eight simultaneous dial-in sessions (at speeds up to 57.6 Kbps) with no
performance degradation. Because TribeLink was built around PPP, both CHAP
(Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) and the PAP (Password
Authentication Protocol) security are standard, preventing unauthorized
users from accessing the network. TribeLink's included TribePPP Macintosh
client software provides support for both Apple Talk and TCP/IP over PPP
and is fully compatible with InterCon's InterPPP. LinkTracker management
software comes bundled with TribeLink and offers an intuitive way to
define and manage users. Upgrades include support for Novell's IPX
protocol (to allow remote access to NetWare services) and dial-out, as
well as AppleTalk, TCP/IP and IPX routing.

TribeLink has a suggested retail price of $1,995. A free software upgrade
for dial-out will be available in November '94. An upgrade for Novell IPX
dial-in has a suggested retail price of $295. Pricing for LAN-to-LAN
routing is not yet available.
