SYBASE UNVEILS RDB, INGRES MIGRATION PROGRAM

Sybase Facilitates Migration From Rdb and Ingres to SYBASE Software With
Aggressive Pricing Incentives, Consulting, and Interoperability Offerings

EMERYVILLE, CA, October 26,1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server CompanyT~s, today announced an aggressive program aimed at
helping Rdb and Ingres database customers migrate to SYBASE~ System loT~
software while preserving the investments in their existing technology.
The program, now in progress, allows qualifying Rdb and Ingres customers
to obtain up to a 50~0 discount on designated SYBASE database and
interoperability product licenses, plus five days of migration consulting
from Sybase's Worldwide Professional Services organization bundled at no
extra charge.

Sybase's migration program was designed to meet the specific demands of Rdb
and Ingres customers moving to client/server computing. Typically, these
customers want to utilize best-of-breed client/server technology and
leverage their existing Rdb- or Ingres-based applications by integrating
them into a single, heterogeneous information system distributed across
the enterprise. The Sybase program lowers the financial and educational
barriers to this migration. It combines price incentives on core pieces of
Sybase's industry-leading database and interoperability software with
complementary consulting on how to effectively implement a client/server
system by integrating Rdb or Ingres with SYBASE technology.

"Sybase's comprehensive, new program offers a truly cost-effective option
for Rdb and Ingres customers who want the ability to address future
computing requirements while retaining investments in their existing
database technology," said Stu Schuster, executive vice president of
Sybase. "It delivers the products and consulting services that will enable
these customers to successfully address both the short-term and long-term
challenges of preserving their current Rdb or Ingres investments while
leveraging open, industry-leading client/server SYBASE software."

Program Highlights

The migration program, called Lifeline~M, allows current Rdb and Ingres
customers to obtain up to a 50% discount off of the list price for SQL
Server 10, OmniSQL Gateway, and either the OmniSQL Access Module for
Ingres or Rdb. The availability of OmniSQL interoperability software as
part of the program enables users to readily deploy new SYBASEbased
client/server applications that co-exist and interoperate with their
existing Rdb or Ingres data.

Under the Lifeline program, customers who purchase more than $40,000 of
SYBASE software are eligible to receive five free days of consulting
through Sybase's Worldwide Professional Services group to help customers
evaluate their migration options. The service, called FastStart Migration
Study, includes a comprehensive data gathering effort used to provide a
customer with specific recommendations for approaching the Rdb or Ingres
migration and managing potential integration efforts. The resulting
information is summarized in a "Migration Study Engagement Report."

"Having a comprehensive, well-thought migration plan is critical to the
success of any business implementing client/server computing," said Steve
Sharp, vice president of Sybase's Worldwide Professional Services. "The
availability of migration consulting reflects Sybase's long-term
commitment to giving customers the tools they need to reap the full
benefits of a client/server environment."

The Lifeline migration program runs now through December 16,1994 for Ingres
users and now through March 16,1995 for Rdb users. Customers requiring
additional information on the Lifeline program, terms, and conditions can
call Sybase at 1-800-8SYBASE.
