SYBASE ACQUIRES EXPRESSWAY TECHNOLOGIES

Leading RDBMS Vendor Acquires Advanced Indexing Technology for Data
Warehousing

Emeryville, CA, October 31, 1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced the acquisition of Expressway
Technologies Corporation, a developer of advanced data access technology.
Financial details of the merger were not disclosed.
Sybase has acquired Expressway Technologies through a "pooling of
interests," merger effective October 1,1994. As a result of the
acquisition, Sybase gains the rights to Expressway's advanced technology,
which improves complex query processing performance for decision support
applications. The acquisition follows joint development efforts between
Sybase and Expressway that began earlier this year.

Sybase," said Mark Hoffman, president and CEO of Sybase. "Integrating
Expressway technology into Sybase's industry-leading family of
client/server software products will provide significant benefits to our
customers."

Expressway Technologies

Expressway Technologies, a 25-person firm based in Waltham, Mass., was
founded as Henco Software in 1975 by Henry Cochran. In 1993, the company
changed its name to Expressway Technologies Corporation to focus on its
new technology, called EXPRESSWAY. Henco Software's legacy product line,
which includes INFO and INFO-Text, was sold in 1993.
