Rockwell Telecommunications introduced its new family of facsimile modem
devices incorporating full-duplex speakerphone and digital answering
machine capabilities. The devices enable OEMs of fax machines to address
the needs of the small office/home office (SOHO) and residential markets
by allowing them to cost-effectively provide a full range of telephone
features for end-user products.

The products' full-duplex speakerphone capabilities offer natural, two-way
conversation with hands-free convenience. Rockwell's Digitalk(tm)
technology, when combined with echo cancellation and line conditioning
techniques, provides audio quality rivaling that found in state-of-the-art
teleconferencing equipment. Independent mute and volume controls for the
speakers and microphone offer OEMs maximum flexibility in product
development.

The speakerphone feature is the latest addition to Rockwell's recently
announced RFX96V12 facsimile modem device. The device includes a
low-bit-rate voice codec, which provides 12 minutes of voice storage in 4
Mbits of RAM, allowing near-toll quality playback for digital answering
machine operations.

The new modem device sets also extend Rockwell's Advanced FaxEngine family.
The combination of the new modem and an integrated fax controller (IFC)
provides a two-chip device that supports facsimile, digital answering
machine and speakerphone functionality in a flexible and cost-effective
solution.

The new devices support 14400bps and 9600bps send/receive Group 3
facsimile, with downward compatibility from 7200bps to 2400bps, and V.23
full-duplex support.

Rockwell's initial product offering, the RFX96V12-S, consists of a 100- pin
plastic quad flat pack (PQFP) and 28-pin plastic leaded chip carrier
(PLCC).

Samples of the RFX96V12-S are available now; volume production is scheduled
for November 1994. Pricing for 10K quantities of the RFX96V12-S is $38.

ROCKWELL SHIPS INDUSTRY'S FIRST POSITION-INDEPENDENT, INTEGRATED ANSWERING
MACHINE/SPEAKERPHONE/ DATA/FAX/VOICE MODEM CHIPSET

New device targets PC-based answering machine and Conferencing
applications.

Rockwell Telecommunications today announced it is shipping the industry's
first position-independent, full-duplex speakerphone with integrated
data/fax/telephone answering machine (TAM) modem chipset, the
RCV144ACi/SP. When integrated into a modem system, the new chipset
provides end-users with the lowest-cost, highest-performance speakerphone
solution for PC-based TAM conferencing applications.

Rockwell's position-independent speakerphone design enhances the user
experience while providing the highest quality connection. The
RCV144ACi/SP compensates for user movement, distance from the microphone
and relative position between the microphone and speakers, without
compromising quality or volume. This provides OEMs with significant cost
savings by allowing them to avoid costly accoustic designs.

Other features include 14.4 data/fax/voice modem capabilities; independent
mute; volume controls for the speakers and microphone; and a room monitor
mode, which enables a caller to activate the speakerphone from remote
locations. Microphone sensistivity is automatically increased to allow
detection of low-volume activity.

Production units of the RCV144ACi/SP are available now. Pricing for 10K
quantities is $49.50. For more information or technical documentation,
call (800) 436-9988 or fax (818) 365-1876.
