REMUS 1.2.5 OPTIMIZED FOR POWER MACINTOSH

Hudson, Wisconsin - August 1, 1994 - Trillium Research, Inc. today
announced availability of Remus 1.2.5 and Remus Limited 1.2.5, updated
versions of its RAID disk array software. Remus software allows multiple
hard drives to be used as a disk array, providing high performance and
protection against drive failures. Remus 1.2.5 runs on all Macintosh
computers, including the Power Macintosh.

Designed with the Power Macintosh and future improvements in Apple's system
software in mind, Remus 1.2.5 provides high I/O performance through
support of SCSI Manager 4.3 and its direct memory access (DMA)
capabilities on Power Macintosh computers, and through the use of PowerPC
native code for time-critical operations. Asynchronous I/O support ensures
optimal performance with AppleShare, QuickTime, and database servers.

Remus allows the dual SCSI buses available on some Power Macintosh models,
including the 8100, 8150, and 9150, to be used for a disk array. With
fast SCSI-2 drives, speeds of up to 8 megabytes per second can be achieved
(a 100% increase over a single drive). If even faster performance is
needed, a third-party SCSI accelerator can be added; with an accelerator
and fast/wide SCSI-2 drives, speeds up to 17 megabytes per second are
possible.

Remus includes RAID levels 4 and 5, which are ideal for file servers or
other applications where the cost of storage is important. These RAID
levels provide fault-tolerant storage, while sacrificing less storage
space for redundancy than the 50% required for mirroring (RAID level 1).
RAID levels 4 and 5 also use striping for added performance. For two-drive
systems, Remus also provides RAID level 1 as an option.

Remus and Remus Limited (which includes only RAID levels 0 and 1) are
priced at U.S. $590 and U.S. $295 respectively, and are available now.
