PressLink, Knight-Ridder's Founder of Online News Delivery, Says PressLink
Explorer will be Cornerstone of Future Information Platform

- Provides Rapid Access of Content Within Natural Publishing
  Workflow
- Allows Drag & Drop Integration with Publishing's Most Popular
- Applications, including Photoshop and Quark
- Offers Fast, Intuitive Search & Retrieval

NEW YORK -- November 1, 1994 -- PressLink, the world's pioneer of online
news services for media professionals, today introduced PressLink Explorer
at the FOLIO Publishing Exhibition, held here through November 4.
PressLink Explorer provides integration of the world's digital content,
from PressLink, directly into media professionals' desktop applications.

"PressLink invented, perfected, and now takes to the next level the concept
of online delivery with PressLink Explorer," said PressLink President
Richard Cates, continuing, "We spent time with users in typical publishing
workflows to insure that any PressLink enhancement would improve those
processes, rather than disrupt them. Input from our beta-test sites tells
us we've more than hit the mark with PressLink Explorer." Cates also said
that PressLink Explorer provides the platform for PressLink's planned
two-way information model of the future, where users will have the option
of providing text or image information to the worldwide publishing
community.

Sports Illustrated's Deputy Picture Editor, Phil Jache, echoed Cates'
assessment: "PressLink has seriously upped the ante for content
acquisition and management. Now we have the luxury of improving workflow,
from a purely organizational standpoint, because the technology is finally
ahead of us," said the PressLink Explorer beta-site supervisor. "More time
and flexibility means we can do more, like browse content, with higher
quality and effectiveness."

A PressLink 6-month membership, including Explorer, is available at the
introductory price of $109.95. Current PressLink members can add PressLink
Explorer at the discounted price of $49.95. PressLink expects to commence
regular pricing ($199.95 per PressLink ID) for the PressLink Explorer
enhancement after December 15.

PressLink Explorer leverages the industry's latest technologies and
standards, such as AppleScript and Drag & Drop, to provide users with the
power to explore and instantly capture the diversity of content available
both on PressLink and within the local content environment.

PressLink Explorer allows users to issue queries to server folders holding
PressLink Information Provider files, as well as users' local folders. As
files are added to, or removed from, a monitored folder, the Browser
window in PressLink Explorer updates dynamically to reflect those
changes.

Cates said that PressLink is working on a solution for Windows-based
PressLink members.

PressLink innovated the online delivery business in 1986 and today has
become the preferred meeting place for over 50 media Information
Providers, such as Reuters, Gannett, Knight-Ridder/Tribune, Allsport, and
Agence France-Presse; and thousands of media professionals in the
publishing industries. Members utilize any number of the 10,000 new items
available on PressLink every week, or over 200,000 items in its news
archives.

PressLink is a wholly owned subsidiary of Knight-Ridder, Inc. (NYSE:KRI),
the second-largest newspaper group in the United States. News, advertising
and information from Knight-Ridder reaches more than 100 million people,
worldwide, on a daily basis. Knight-Ridder stock trades on the New York
Stock Exchange, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and the Frankfurt Stock
Exchange.

VA 22091-5302. Telephone 703/758-1740. Fax 703/758-8368.
