Agreement Enables The First Comprehensive Security Offering for OS/2
The Desktop Observatory "C2-4-OS/2"

Pinnacle Technology, the maker of OS/2's premier security offering,
announced its agreement with M&T Technologies, Inc. to bring additional
function to The Desktop Observatory. Codenamed "C2-4-OS/2", the new
offering provides a combination of the security, networkability, and
management function currently found in Pinnacle's The Desktop Observatory
and the access security found in M&T's MicroSAFETM products. The new
function will be available as an inexpensive upgrade to The Desktop
Observatory. General availability is expected to be early first quarter,
1995.

"It's like the ideal software cop" , said Charles Dircks, Chief Security
Architect for Pinnacle Technology. "Our software is there when you need it
and asleep when you don't. We're offering more security functionality for
OS/2 than is found in C2 certifiable operating systems!."

General features include:

Access Security: When invoked, all access to disk data is
inhibited. Removing the hard drive or booting up with DOS will
not provide a means to access data.

Application Security: Prevents users from using the things
they shouldn't. Specific applications, commands, and objects
(shredder, etc.) are secured at your option.

Reporting: Specific events can be logged and reported.
Other events can be initiated. For example, closing an
application can initiate an incremental backup.

Manageability: Passwords, and desktop profiles can be
centrally maintained and managed in a file that is less
than 10 K bytes making it particularly easy to manage
and replicate, if necessary: "We can typically deliver
or restore a desired desktop in twenty seconds from
anywhere in the world over a 2400 baud modem", noted Dircks.

Networkability: The Desktop Observatory works over any
network operating system including Novell, IBM, Microsoft,
    Banyon, DCE, and dial-in implementations.

PowerPC Potential!

The Desktop Observatory is one of the few products already tested by IBM
and Pinnacle for its ability to run on the forthcoming PowerPC. "The
advanced type of security we offer is very important to IBM's large
customers. This, and our rigid adherence to OS/2's standards made Pinnacle
a natural choice to be included in IBM's Comdex booth. We had one
programmer port our code to the PowerPC in only 4 hours!", said Dircks.

"We are proud to Participate in the first comprehensive security technology
for the OS/2 environment," said Fred Hobbs, M&T's Chairman and CEO. He
continued, "Now the same MicroSAFE technology that has already met the
information protection requirements at Los Alamos and Sandia National
Laboratories can be used in OS/2."

Pinnacle Technology, Inc. develops and markets management and reporting
tools utilized by security conscious customer in multitasking
environments. Their flagship product, The Desktop Observatory, has
received enthusiastic acceptance worldwide. M&T Technologies, Inc.
develops and markets the MicroSAFE family of information security software
products.
