Big Bird and Elmo "Talk Back" in Sesame Street: Numbers

Familiar Characters Guide Young Learners Through Delightful New CD-ROM
Program

SAN MATEO, Calif., November 11, 1994 -- Now young children can do more than
just watch Sesame Street - they can interact with the characters too, at
home on their computers. Software publisher EA*Kids, a division of
Electronic Arts, has teamed up with Children's Television Workshop to
present Sesame Street: Numbers, the first in a series of interactive
multimedia learning games. The games incorporate the enchanting look and
feel of the all-time favorite educational TV series. Children ages 3 to 6
are guided through the world of Sesame Street: Numbers by Elmo, currently
one of the most well loved characters on the television show. They can
play and learn together with other popular characters, such as Bert and
Ernie, and Big Bird.

Sesame Street: Numbers engages youngsters in creative, discovery-based
learning experiences. With Elmo as their host, they stroll down Sesame
Street, encountering interactive games that help them learn math readiness
concepts, including number recognition, counting, classification, and the
concept of 'near' and 'far'. Skills build in a playful context, as
children explore the street, the Count's castle, Big Bird's nest, and Bert
and Ernie's apartment.

Throughout the program children are visually and vocally encouraged in
their learning by the on-screen Sesame Street characters. Youngsters are
in control of their own environment as they change the channels on the TV
set in Bert and Ernie's apartment or change the dial on the radio in Big
Bird's nest. Children can make simulated phone calls to their favorite
characters. Characters also "call" children in between visits to thank
them for their past visits. In all, more than one hour of video and songs
from the television series is included.

The program was developed by educational specialists at the Children's
Television Workshop (CTW), producers of the original Sesame Street, which
has won 58 Emmy Awards and is now entering its 26th year on the air.

"CTW and EA*Kids have a similar philosophy - that kids learn when they're
engaged, and engagement stems from open-ended discovery and creative
explorations," said Greg Bestick, vice president and general manager of
EA*Kids. "All the activities in Sesame Street: Numbers reflect that
thinking."

Sesame Street: Numbers will be available on CD-ROM in November 1994 for the
IBM PC. The Macintosh version will be available shortly thereafter. It is
also available for the 3DO game machine. Retail price for the PC and 3DO
version is $49.95.
