AVAIL NETSPACE HSM 3.0 PROVIDES HARD DISK-ONLY HSM

NEW RELEASE EMPOWERS SMALLER NETWORKS

The newest release of Avail NetSpace allows networks to implement storage
management capabilities using hard disk storage only, and can expand to
hierarchical storage management as small networks grow.

Boulder, Colorado - November 7, 1994 - Avail Systems Corporation today
announced the availability of NetSpace 3.0, a new version of their
award-winning hierarchical storage management (HSM) software for Novell
networks. NetSpace 3.0 provides new storage management options for NetWare
environments by supporting expanded levels in a network's storage
hierarchy. NetSpace 3.0 is available now to Avail resellers.

NetSpace 3.0 can configure its managed storage repository from a single
disk drive only, providing HSM benefits without adding a tape or optical
library until future expansion becomes necessary. This feature also allows
networks with higher performance requirements to utilize HSM without
sacrificing speed accessibility.

Hierarchical storage management software provides expert, rule based
procedures that automatically store networked data on "layers" of storage
peripherals. Files are migrated to various storage devices in the
hierarchy (such as disk drives, optical jukeboxes and tape libraries) to
optimize both the cost of storage and data access time. Files are
transparently migrated and recalled for the user, providing virtual
expansion of network storage at a fraction of the cost of adding disk
capacity to individual servers.

In previous versions of Avail NetSpace, network storage management benefits
were available only to NetWare sites that installed a tape library or an
optical jukebox to store the data migrated from the network server's
managed disks. NetSpace 3.0 now allows the migration of files from the
managed servers to an HSM hard disk, using it as the central data
repository. This feature enables businesses with smaller capacity
requirements - and with smaller budgets for new network hardware - to gain
the cost saving benefits from NetSpace HSM now, and be positioned to
expand the storage hierarchy as the need arises.

"In formulating this new release, we asked our existing customers now
NetSpace could better meet their needs, and turned their requests into
Release 3.0," said David Dodd, chief technical officer and co-founder of
Avail Systems, "We have evolved NetSpace into mainframe-class storage
management."

NetSpace 3.0 includes other new features that both increase the storage
options provided to the network administrator and expands the usefulness
of the product.

* Off-Line Storage Management - NetSpace 3.0 manages data that overflows a
full storage hierarchy so that the system always has storage capacity for
migration of network server files. Overflow data is directed to removable
tape media and cataloged. The off-line storage can be temporarily removed
until additional storage is added. Temporarily overflowed data is
automatically queued back online once additional storage is installed.

* Temporary Recall During Browse - NetSpace 3.0 allows files accessed from
the hierarchy to be browsed - viewed but not changed - without permanently
recalling them. Files stored in the hierarchy are opened on the requesting
server, but are soon returned to their original location in the secondary
storage if they are not changed. File searching neither fills up the
server hard disk nor creates "holes" in the storage hierarchy.

* Enhanced Internal HSM Backup with Media Replaceable Units and Backup Tape
Rotation - Robust functionality is provided in NetSpace's internal backup
that safeguard the managed storage hierarchy. As in prior releases,
scheduling of HSM backup activity is totally automated. Backup tape
rotation, as well as replacement units, are included.

* New Support for Storage Devices - NetSpace 3.0 permits multiple storage
devices to be configured on each level of the hierarchy, easing capacity
growth in the HSM system. Many new devices are supported in cooperation
with Avail READY storage manufacturers, including libraries with multiple
drive transports.

Avail NetSpace HSM software is sold worldwide through a select network of
authorized resellers providing expertise in storage solutions, service and
support. NetSpace 3.0 carries a MSRP of $2749. Registered NetSpace users
may upgrade to the new version for free until April 30, 1994.

Avail Systems was the first company to develop hierarchical storage
management software for Novell networks. Since the product's introduction
in July, 1993, Avail's software has received many accolades, including
Computer Technology Review's Reseller's Choice award and industry honors
for technical excellence and outstanding new storage product. Avail
Systems Corporation, founded in 1991, is a privately held company whose
investors are Aweida Ventures, Euclid Partners, and Hambrecht & Quist.
