Micro Focus Explores 3-D Visualization for Business Computing Environments

Sense8 and Superscape Join Emerging Technologies Program; Provide 3-D
Multi-Platform Development Environment

Palo Alto, Calif. -- September 20, 1994 -- Micro Focus today announced that
Sense8 Corporation and Superscape, two 3-D visualization companies, have
signed on as partners in it Emerging Technologies Program.
Three-dimensional visualization is the first of several "advanced
computing technologies" that Micro Focus is evaluating as part of this
program, announced last month.

The charter of the Emerging Technologies Program is to identify and meet
user requirements for the next generation of computing technologies.
Through the program, Micro Focus will align itself with third-party
companies who are leaders in advanced computing technologies and leverage
these companies' expertise to integrate the solutions into mainstream
business computing.

The partnerships announced today allow Micro Focus to evaluate tools needed
to develop business computing applications in 3-D for a variety of
platforms. Micro Focus will subsequently evaluate voice recognition,
speech synthesis, object-oriented databases and object assembly tools
which are also seen as critical technologies for enabling the COBOL
language.

"Micro Focus has found that a sampling of its current base of mainstream
customers are interested in pursuing the most advanced solutions," said
Paul Adams, president, products and business development for Micro Focus.
"We are in an ideal position to serve these users through our new
partnerships which include providing technologically advanced products
that augment our current product line. '

Micro Focus has established relationships in multiple markets in the
business computing community. Through the program, Micro Focus is
researching critical technologies provided by recognized leaders in their
respective fields and determining how they might be applied in business
computing environments. For the products already identified, Micro Focus
is a reseller, providing these products to progress customer computing
requirements.

The critical and emerging technologies addressed by the program will serve
a diverse range of industries, including banking, healthcare and
manufacturing. Furthermore, the program will continue to identify key
products from third-party vendors which Micro Focus will sell, support and
incorporate into its current product line.

Adams continued, "By aligning with third-party partners who are leaders in
3-D visualization, Micro Focus will help bring the three-dimensional
paradigm to the business computing community. By leveraging Sense8's and
Superscape's expertise, Micro Focus will integrate these technologies into
the business computing environment wherein Micro Focus is an established
leader."

Sense8 provides virtual reality application development software, systems
and consulting services to corporate, education and government application
developers. Through the Emerging Technologies Program, Micro Focus has
developed a strategic alliance with Sense8 to jointly develop a version of
Sense8's WorldToolKit that is tailored to the Micro Focus Workbench.
WorldToolKit is a cross-platform virtual reality application development
environment. Applications developed using this technology span a wide
range of diverse markets including stock market analysis, management
training, robotics, architectural design and biomedicine. Micro Focus will
also distribute WorldToolKit to its existing customer base.

"The integration of Sense8's virtual reality technology into Micro Focus'
leading COBOL application development products will provide corporate
computing professionals with a powerful new capability to help solve
today' s business problems," said Tom Coull, president of Sense8
Corporation. "We see a strong need for this integrated capability in areas
such as business process reengineering and management decision support and
analysis."

Superscape designs, develops and markets 3-D visualization software for
creating and visualizing virtual worlds on Intel-based personal computers.
Superscape' s clients include Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders
worldwide who represent a broad range of industries, from
telecommunications, finance and medicine to architecture and defense.
These companies have incorporated Superscape into their daily business
practices as a critical tool for solving real-world problems. Micro Focus
and Superscape have joined to provide its corporate clients with an
environment for developing robust, 3-D visualization applications for
commercial deployment. Micro Focus will distribute Superscape Visualizer,
Superscape VRT, Superscape Networks and Superscape Developers Kit.

"The agreement between Micro Focus and Superscape is yet another
significant confirmation that virtual reality is being adopted as
mainstream technology by the traditional computing and software industry,"
said Robert Lowe, president and chief executive officer of Superscape Inc.
"Additionally, Micro Focus will provide us with the added benefit of their
mature and very influential customer base."

SUPERSCAPE

Advantages of Superscape products include: ease of use (products are geared
toward the virtual world designer, rather than the programmer); high
performance on a standard PC (expensive graphics cards or other equipment
are not necessary); ability to apply intelligence to objects in the
virtual world (friction, gravity, restitution, collision, etc.);
integration (designers can move easily among editors, enabling rapid
design and development).

Superscape VRT

Superscape VRT is a design and development studio for building virtual
reality applications. The software encompasses several editors to provide
one single integrated product for the rapid development of virtual worlds
and applications. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) ensures ease of use
for programmers and non-programmers alike. Included with the editors are
20 example virtual worlds, a DXF transfer facility and a library of
ready-to-use Virtual Clip Art objects, together with full documentation
and tutorials.

Superscape Networks

Superscape Networks is an optional addition to Superscape VRT, facilitating
the creation of networked virtual worlds. The single license fee enables
unlimited worlds to be created and then visualized on a network of up to
eight Visualizers at one time. Superscape Networks includes examples,
documentation, two network cards and cables.

Superscape Developers Kit

Superscape Developers Kit is an optional extension to Superscape VRT for
interfacing virtual reality applications with third-party devices,
applications and data. The Developers Kit includes examples and
documentation. A Watcom 386 C Compiler V 8.0 or above is required.

Superscape Visualizer

Superscape Visualizer stand-alone software platform is the Superscape
operating environment. This provides the real time visualization of any
virtual world or application created with VRT. Superscape Visualizer
includes 20 example virtual worlds and bulk packs are available.
Visualizer also supports networked virtual worlds and applications written
with Superscape Developers Kit.
