CANON CAPITALIZES ON LASER HERITAGE TO OFFER VERSATILE, 12-PAGE PER MINUTE,
600 DPI LASER PRINTER

Price/Performance Targeted to SOHO Market, Network Capability Attractive to
Corporate Customers

COSTA MESA, CA (Nov. 7, 1994) -- Continuing to round out its laser printer
product offerings, Canon Computer Systems Inc. (CCSI) today introduced the
LBP-1260 laser printer, a high speed, networkable replacement to the
LBP-860. Capitalizing on Canon's; heritage as the provider of 80 percent
of the world's laser engine technology, the LBP-1260 delivers fast,
12-page per minute print speeds, a network interface card option, and true
600 dpi print resolution to customers in both the corporate and small
office/home office (SOHO) environment.

The LBP-1260 is designed for Microsoft Windows, MS-DOS, and Macintosh
operating environments, delivering its superb quality and fast speeds
through a combination of memory reduction technology, 32-bit RISC
processing and super fine toner. New to the LBP-1260 is the addition of
the network interface card option. Shipping this month, the LBP-1260 is
priced at $1,699 (MSRP) with a street price expected to be $1,299.

"As the recognized leader in laser printing technology, Canon has the
singular advantage of being able to offer consumers value and reliability
as well as features," says Peter Bergman, vp of marketing at CCSI. "Our
SOHO customers will find the LBP-1260 an affordable, feature-laden
purchase, while corporate America will be attracted to the networking
option that meets their requirements."

Performance Features Combine for High Quality Business Printer

The LBP-1260's true 600 dpi resolution offers exceptional looking output,
while Canon's 12 ppm LBP-EX laser engine directs an 850-sheet, with
options, total input capacity making high-volume, high-speed printing
easily manageable. The printer contains Universal Font Scaling Technology
(UFST) and comes standard with 35 Intellifont and 10 TrueType scalable
internal fonts.

Designed to operate with low print memory requirements, the LBP-1260 can
print PCL5e-compatible files and Adobe PostScript Level 2 files easily
with the standard 2 MB of installed memory at 600 dpi resolution. Total
memory of the LBP-1260 can be expanded to 34 MB with low cost, industry
standard SIMMs to meet even the most demanding of office printer needs.

The LBP-1260 offers Peerless Systems Corp.'s Memory Reduction Technology
(MRT) to accelerate printer performance at low print memory levels by
storing page images in a compressed form rather than the full page method
often utilized by other printer manufacturers.

Standard paper handling capabilities include a 250 letter-sized sheet paper
cassette and a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray, that holds all sizes of paper
(letter, legal, A4) and up to 10 envelopes. Other paper tray options
include another tray for letter, legal and A4 that provides an additional
capacity of 500 sheets and an envelope feeder tray which holds up to 75
envelopes.

Like CCSI's personal laser printer, the LBP-430, the LBP-1260 uses Canon's
super fine toner for more refined text and graphics. The EP-E toner
cartridge life is approximately 6,000 pages and costs $155 (MSRP).

Network Option For Those That Need It

Recent studies show that 69 percent of the U.S. network market is comprised
of Novell network systems, of which Ethernet comprises 80 percent. The
LBP-1260's optional ethernet Network Interface Card, which plugs into the
I/O slot, is available to support those Novell users looking for a high
speed, high-resolution printer to meet the unique needs of a multiple user
system. The optional Network Interface Card carries an MSRP of $399.

Multiple Platforms and Small Footprint Equal Exceptional Convenience

Like its predecessor, the LBP-880, the LBP-1260 easily handles multiple
user and mixed computing environments. Automatic emulation and interface
switching allows both PC-based and Macintosh computer users to share a
single printer, should users not avail themselves of the optional network
interface card. Standard connectivity options include both serial and
parallel ports. AppleTalk and Adobe PostScript Level 2 expansion options
are also available.

User-friendly print management is a key feature of the LBP-1260. Printing
from different software applications is handled through an automatic
emulation switching feature, allowing both PCL5e and PostScript files to
be printed without requiring the user to manually adjust the printer.

The LBP-1260 is compact in size, measuring 17"(w) x 16"(d) x 12"(h).
Installation and set-up are also simple with the Quick start Guide and
easy-to-install Windows 3.1 driver.

The LBP-1260 is covered by CCSI's InstantExchange program -- a two-year
warranty on all Canon printer and scanner products, which offers customers
a 24-hour replacement unit -- cost-free. The LBP-1260 and all CCSI
products, are supported through CCSI's toll-free technical support and
