Optus Software to ship Microsoft Windows NT fax server

Will provide robust, scalable fax communications capabilities for
workgroups, NetWare LANs, and multiplatform enterprise environments

October 19, 1994 -- Optus Software is announcing that the latest version of
its award-winning FACSys fax server will ship this fall. FACSys Fax
Messaging Gateway v4.0 for Microsoft Windows NT will provide a robust,
scalable solution for integrating fax communications across the
enterprise.

FACSys FMG v4.0 also supports NetWare and other leading network operating
systems supported by Windows NT. By supporting multiple NOSs, FACSys will
fulfill the needs of corporate networks with mixed environments, providing
a single, highly leveraged fax resource for the entire enterprise. It
supports multiple desktop clients, including Windows 3.x, Windows NT, and
Chicago. OS/2 and Macintosh client support will also be available in the
near future.

FACSys FMG v4.0 integrates with leading e-mail platforms (Microsoft Mail,
Lotus cc:Mail, WordPerfect Office/GroupWise) plus popular MHS-compatible
applications. FACSys FMG v4.0 also integrates with Microsoft Exchange and
Microsoft At Work.

Optus has addressed a critical issue for heterogenous networks by
developing its own Named Pipes interface between Windows NT and NetWare.
The company has also built bindery import facilities for FACSys to ease
administration.

Other key fax server administration features include remote management,
native NT services, and fully customizable control over user rights and
system parameters. As with previous versions of FACSys, the fax server is
accessible through a full range of interfaces -- DLLs, DDE, CAS, FaxBios,
command-line utilities, etc. -- which allow companies to build automated
and/or event-driven fax messaging routines.

End-users will enjoy a wide variety of functional enhancements, such as
personalized routing controls, user-friendly phonebooks, extended fax
scheduling logic, and simplified ad hoc fax forwarding. FACSys for Windows
NT also contains a powerful image and text file conversion engine, making
it much easier for users to work with received faxes.

"Our Windows NT fax server gives MIS managers and users alike an entirely
new level of flexibility and power in their use of fax as a component of
their daily business communications," said Joseph Avellino, president of
Optus Software. "It's scalable, it integrates completely with existing
network facilities, and it provides all the features necessary to fulfill
both the structural and ad hoc messaging requirements of today's
information infrastructures." Avellino said Optus is planning to further
expand its line of communications gateway products.

"This product catapaults Optus into the enterprise arena," said Peter
Davidson of Davidson Consulting, which publishes NetFax News and covers
the network fax industry in association with EMMS and Buyers Laboratories.
"Their use of the Windows NT platform, combined with their practical
approach to network fax integration issues, give them a significant head
start in meeting the real needs of corporate IS."

FACSys FMG v4.0 will be available through dealers and distributors
worldwide.

Optus Software has been integrating fax communications into data networks
since 1987. It introduced FACSys into the LAN marketplace in 1990. FACSys
has been named LAN Magazine's Product of the Year for three consecutive
years, and has won numerous other awards both in the US and overseas.
