EXABYTE'S EXB-8505XL TAPE DRIVE NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH DISTRIBUTION

8mm Distribution Kit Offers 2 Additional Gigabytes of Storage at No Extra
Charge

LAS VEGAS, Nev. Nov. 14, 1994 -- Exabyte Corp. (NASDAQ:EXBT) today
announced immediate availability of an 8mm distribution kit which includes
the 7-gigabyte EXB-8505XL 8mm cartridge tape subsystem. The EXB-8505XL
replaces Exabyte's 5-gigabyte EXB-8505 8mm tape drive in the kits, giving
end users 2 extra gigabytes of data storage capacity at no additional
charge. With this announcement, Exabyte offers its current
highest-performance 8mm product in volume to the distribution channel.

A 5.25-inch half-high 8mm tape drive, the EXB-8505XL offers 40 percent more
capacity than the popular EXB-8505, and twice the capacity of DDS-2
drives. Using extended-length media, the drive records 7 gigabytes of
uncompressed data per cartridge at 500 kilobytes per second. With standard
hardware data compression, which typically doubles capacity and transfer
rate, the EXB-8505XL can record 14 gigabytes of data at 1 megabyte per
second. The EXB8505XL uses the extended-length media of the EXATAPE 160mXL
8mm data cartridge to achieve its higher capacities.

As with all of Exabyte's half-high 8mm tape drives, the EXB-8505XL can be
plugged directly into Exabyte's 8mm half-high libraries, the EXB-210,
EXB-440 and EXB-480, without modification.

"Exabyte is pleased to offer our distributors and their customers a
higher-capacity drive at no extra charge," said Peter D. Behrendt,
Exabyte's chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer.
"The EXB-8505XL has gained wide acceptance in the market. With its
7-gigabyte capacity, the EXB-8505XL will be an excellent product for our
distributors' channels." Distribution sales have climbed to 38 percent of
Exabyte's total sales in the last 18 months. "The distribution channel has
been very effective for us," Behrendt said.

Exabyte's ready-to-install 8mm distribution kit includes an EXB-8505XL tape
drive, an EXATAPE 160mXL 8mm data cartridge, cables, owner's manual,
warranty card, software compatibility matrix and operating systems
configuration instructions. The compatibility matrix lists all versions of
software that support standard Exabyte drives. The operating system
configuration installation instructions helps users configure their 8mm
drives to the industry's most popular operating systems. Kits are
available with either internal or external drive configurations.

Headquartered in Boulder, Colo., Exabyte Corp. designs, manufactures and
markets a full range of tape storage products: 8mm, 4mm and quarter-inch
minicartridge tape drives, tape libraries and recording media. Exabyte is
the world's largest independent manufacturer focused solely on tape
products, which it ships through a network of original equipment
manufacturers, value-added resellers and distributors.
