New High-Performance Multimedia Portable

Energy Star System Features Stereo Sound, CD-ROM, and Expansion Slots

Las Vegas, November 14, 1994--Today, Dolch Computer Systems announced the
Audio L-PAC (Light-Portable Add-in Computer), the company' s newest
platform for high-end multimedia systems. Designed for serious
professionals, the Audio L-PAC combines a CD-ROM and concert quality
stereo sound with performance oriented 486 CPUs and expansion capacity for
the best in high-end video and sound hardware. The system provides room
for three drives, and two open full-height/full-length ISA or EISA slots.
PCMCIA slots are also available as an option. For the very best is
portable screen technology, the Audio L-PAC comes with a color display
featuring the first ever active matrix TFT with 1.7 million colors and a
contrast ratio of over 100 to 1. Matching even the performance of high-end
desktop systems, this newest of self-contained multimedia portables weighs
just 15 pounds and meets the requirements for compliance to the
government's Energy Star program.

Multimedia Power Portables

Since the advent of the multimedia market, Dolch has been an award winning
leader in high-end presentation portables. "On every level, the Dolch
system works like it was designed from the ground up to be a powerful
portable multimedia solution . . . the best choice around," according to
Portable Computer Magazine, August 1993. Since 1987, the company has
pioneered a whole new concept in portable computers that differentiates
the power portable from all others by much higher performance, larger
memory capacity, greater expansion capability, and the best of flat-panel
displays. In 1991, Dolch introduced the Audio PAC, adding the best in
stereo sound for portable multimedia applications. Today, Dolch multimedia
portables are found wherever highly sophisticated professionals require
high-quality sound, desktop-type performance, and expansion room for
high-end multimedia hardware--all in an industrial ruggedized portable
package. In the Audio L-PAC, system memory can be configured to 64 MB with
hard drives available to 4 GB. Sharing all the performance features of
Dolch's venerable PAC series, the Audio L-PAC weighs just 15 pounds--a
full 25% less-yet still has room for a 20 watt stereo system, a CD-ROM,
two full-length/full-height ISA or EISA slots, and two Type II or one Type
m PCMCIA slot(s). "The Audio L-PAC provides serious multimedia
professionals with a whole new point on the price/performance curve for
high-end presentation systems," according to Volker Dolch, company
President.

Best Displays

The Audio L-PAC is available with a choice of two of the industry's highest
performance flat-panel display systems. A newly introduced 256 gray scale,
transflective monochrome TFT is available for users who must work outside
in the daylight. It is the industry's only active matrix display that is
readable in direct sunlight. For the best in color performance, Dolch has
recently introduced an active matrix TFT with a palette of 1.7 million
colors. The .30mm by .30mm pixel pitch of this new display provides for a
level of visual acuity never previously seen on a color flat-panel. In
addition, the 100 to I contrast ratio easily outperforms the industry's
next best at 60 to 1. And this dazzling active matrix display provides for
the greatest viewing angle ever with readability to nearly 90 degrees from
center.

Field Proven Ruggedness

In the Audio L-PAC, all internal components are mounted in a custom
designed, monocoque alloy chassis that is then mounted inside a high
impact, molded outer shell. To keep add-in boards securely in place during
rough handling, it uses a unique card retention system that conforms to
the boards no matter the variance in their size and length. Using the same
structures and materials of the field proven and military tested PAC
family, the Audio L-PAC will keep on going even on the most abusive road
trips.

Energy Star Compliance

Responding to environmental concerns, the U.S. Government has instituted
the Energy Star Program which sets energy efficiency standards for
manufacturers of computers and peripheral equipment. In order to comply,
the majority of systems that can match the sheer performance levels of an
Audio L-PAC, require a difficult-to-implement power-down mode that is
activated when the system is not in use. With a new low power backlight
and an energy efficient power supply, Dolch is able to certify the Audio
L-PAC without a power down mode. Users will never experience the common
software problems associated with such modes.
