DELL ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST MULTIPROCESSING SERVERS, SERVER MANAGEMENT
SOFTWARE

Multiprocessing server delivers reliable, scalable dual processing
capability at uniprocessor price

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 7, 1994 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL)
today introduced its first multiprocessor network servers, the Dell
PowerEdge SP-2 and XE-2, combining the performance characteristics of a
true multiprocessing system with the high availability features currently
offered in Dell's existing PowerEdge family of servers. The new servers
are ideal for corporate and government networking customers who require
additional processor scalability for applications such as Oracle database
and Lotus Notes groupware. The powerful new servers utilize Intel's 90-
and 100-megahertz (MHz) Pentium processors and are compliant with the
Intel Multiprocessing Platform Specification (MPS) version 1.1, the de
facto standard for multiprocessing, ensuring that they will support a
variety of off-the-shelf multiprocessing-capable operating systems without
the need for special customization.

Complementing the new server announcement, Dell today also introduced a New
Dell Server Management System, providing a comprehensive set of server
management tools including Dell SafeSite for all Dell PowerEdge servers.
The new management system provides a Windows graphical user interface that
enables a network administrator to remotely monitor the key functions of a
server such as the temperature of the server's vital components, status
and performance of the Dell SCSI Array subsystem, and integrity of the
system's power supply. SafeSite upgrade kits are available for current
users of Dell PowerEdge servers whose systems are equipped appropriately.

The PowerEdge XE-2, targeted at mid-size to large networks requiring a high
degree of expandability, has the power and reliability to handle networks
of hundreds of network users or 'nodes,' and also makes an ideal groupware
and front-end database server. The Dell PowerEdge SP-2 is designed for
mid-range file and resource sharing as well as groupware markets and is
well suited for small-to medium-sized network environments.

Engineered for high reliability, network manageability and compatibility
with industry standards, the PowerEdge SP-2 and XE-2 provide
multiprocessing capabilities at uniprocessor prices. Available this month,
the Dell PowerEdge SP-2 is priced starting at $6,598 and the XE is priced
starting at $7,601 (both configured with 1 processor, 16MB RAM, 256K
cache, 1GB SCSI hard drive, VGA monochrome monitor and 101-key keyboard).
Both new servers can be purchased with either one or two processors
installed, allowing customers who want to start with a uniprocessor server
to migrate to multiprocessing when their needs dictate. No additional
components need to be added to the system board to support dual
processing. The upgrade to 90MHz dual processing is $940 while upgrading
to a 100MHz system to dual processing costs $1,140.

With the proliferation of networks in today's corporations, users more than
ever need to be able to manage the critical elements of the network. Dell
has responded with the introduction of Dell SafeSite 1.0, a Dell-designed
Server Management System. SafeSite is a complete set of tools that monitor
the integrity of the Dell SCSI Array, system temperature and power supply.
These tools provide performance and fault information to network
administrators.

SafeSite is portable, allowing the network technicians to quickly load the
software onto any node on the network to receive and manage vital
information on the PowerEdge server, providing a highly flexible and
convenient way to monitor the health of Dell PowerEdge servers. Further,
SafeSite easily "snaps into" Intel's future LANDesk technology product
line providing network management features for networking customers
requiring broad management capabilities. Additionally, SafeSite is
architected to be seamlessly integrated with other standard network
management packages providing enterprise management tools.

"Today's multiprocessor and server management announcement is just phase
one of a multi-phased, customer-aligned strategy for developing highly
reliable, industry leading server technology," said Mark Garver, Dell's
vice president of advanced systems. "With the combination of the new
PowerEdge SP-2 and XE-2 servers and SafeSite server management capability,
customers running database service or groupware applications now have a
reliable and accessible path to multiprocessing power."

ACCENT ON COMPATIBILITY, PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY

The Dell PowerEdge SP-2 and XE-2 are among the first servers in the
industry designed to Intel Corporation's Multiprocessing Specification
version 1.1 (MPS 1.1). For this reason the dual processing PowerEdge SP-2
and XE-2 support all major multiprocessing-capable operating systems
without any special customization including Microsoft Windows NT 3.5, IBM
OS/2 SMP 2.11, SCO MPX 3.0 and SunSoft Solaris 2.4. In addition, the
PowerEdge SP-2 and XE-2 servers are certified to run Novell NetWare and
UnixWare, Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.5, IBM OS/2, 2.11 and IBM OS/2,
2.11 SMP, SunSoft Solaris 2.4 for Intel and Banyan Vines ensuring a high
level of industry compatibility.

Customers running mission-critical networks require technical service and
support for their hardware and network operating system software to keep
downtime to a minimum. The new PowerEdge servers come standard with Dell
BusinessCare PlusSM, a three-year limited warranty and network-specific
technical service and support program for Dell PowerEdge servers.
BusinessCare Plus provides four-hour on-site service, advanced systems
hardware technical support, and DirectLineSM network operating system
support enabling customers to receive 24-hour service and support for
their PowerEdge servers and network operating system.

A Global 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) designs,
develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports a complete line of
personal computers compatible with industry standards. Dell is the world's
leading direct marketer of personal computers and one of the top five
