Digital Selected To Manage Infrastructure For The Microsoft Network

MAYNARD, Mass. -- November 14, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation has
been awarded a five-year contract to manage the worldwide client/server
infrastructure for The Microsoft Network.

The contract includes the management of the wide-area backbone network, the
data center, and the help desk function for the environment that will
support Microsoft's products and services.

Digital won the contract after a capabilities evaluation by Microsoft of
other leading outsourcing firms.

Under the terms of the outsourcing agreement, Digital will manage and
operate a site consisting of more than 200 multivendor servers. The
primary infrastructure operations will be set up in the Seattle (WA) area.
Digital will also be enhancing its Polycenter management tools to support
distributed Windows NT environments.

"Microsoft's information technology strategy is built around a high
performance Windows NT client/server infrastructure that employs hardware
and software from a variety of vendors," noted Russ Siegelman, Microsoft's
General Manager of Online Services. "We selected Digital because of their
leadership in managing client/ server production environments."

According to Bob Young, Digital's Managing Director for Outsourcing
Services, "this is a key win for Digital because it demonstrates our
excellent competitive position in managing multivendor client/server
networks. We're particularly pleased that such a well-respected leader in
the computer industry has selected Digital to manage a critical element of
its information technology infrastructure."

more than 100 countries around the world. This ranges from Digital
providing advice and assistance to clients who manage their own
operations, to shared management where Digital assumes responsibility for
a specific information technology function or business process, to Digital
assuming full outsourcing responsibility.
