Digital Announces Low-Cost PCI Ethernet Adapter At COMDEX '94

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- November 14, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation is
announcing the EtherWORKS Turbo PCI TP, a low-cost single-chip adapter for
Ethernet twisted-pair networks. It supports PCI-based Intel 486, Pentium,
and other industry-standard platforms as well as Digital's Alpha systems.
The adapter's intelligent DMA design delivers optimal network performance
with very low CPU utilization. Priced at $179, it offers one of the most
economical network connections for PCI-based clients and servers.

A full suite of drivers is included -- NetWare 3.x/4.x ODI server, NetWare
ODI client (DOS and OS/2), Windows NT 3.1 and 3.5 (Intel and Alpha),
Windows for Workgroups V3.11, PATHWORKS, SCO UNIX, LAN Manager (DOS and
OS/2), OpenVMS, and DEC OSF/1.

The EtherWORKS Turbo PCI TP features plug-and-play installation and is
completely auto configurable. This 32-bit adapter has an optimized system
interface and two 256 Byte on-chip FIFOs. It supports full duplex Ethernet
capability (20 Mb/s). The adapter is FCC and CE Class B certified for
worldwide use. A limited lifetime warranty is available at no additional
charge.

The EtherWORKS Turbo PCI TP is the latest in a series of high performance
PCI network adapters from Digital. Last month, the company announced the
industry's first PCI FDDI adapters. Digital also offers a PCI Ethernet
adapter that supports ThinWire, thick wire, and twisted-pair connections.

The EtherWORKS Turbo PCI TP will be displayed with Digital's full line of
Ethernet and FDDI adapters in Booth L4002 at the Las Vegas Convention
Center at COMDEX '94.

Digital was one of the first vendors to introduce products that support the
high-speed capacity of the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Local
Bus. The specification for this bus allows a maximum data transfer rate of
132 Megabytes per second, more than four times that of an EISA bus. The
company continues to be a significant contributor to the development of
many popular networking technologies, including Ethernet, FDDI and ATM
LANs, network switches, routers, bridges, network adapters, and terminal
servers. Digital has networked more than 10 million users worldwide.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's scalable Alpha platforms, storage, networking, software
and services, together with industry-focused solutions from business
partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
marketplace.
