Digital Introduces Industry-Leading Portable Printer

Smallest, Lightest-Weight Portable Ink Jet Strengthens Digital's Challenge
to Market Competitors

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- November 14, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation
continues to aggressively challenge its competitors in the printer market
with today's introduction of the industry's smallest, lightest-weight
portable ink jet printer. The DECwriter 90ip printer features a compact
size of 11.6" (h) x 5.2" (w) x 2.5" (d) and weighs just 2.4 pounds. The
latest addition to Digital's growing line of desktop/personal printers,
the DECwriter 90ip printer is designed to help increase productivity by
enabling workers, in virtually any environment, to quickly generate
quality output. The announcement was made at COMDEX, which opened here
today at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

"Today's announcement reinforces Digital's commitment to strengthening its
position in the competitive printer market," said Larry Cabrinety, Vice
President, Components and Periphers Unit. "Over the last month we have
effectively challenged industry leaders, expanded our diverse offering of
printer solutions, and increased our presence in the retail and
distribution channels."

Portable printing is currently a rapidly expanding segment of the computing
industry. According to market research, transportable printers accounted
for 10.8% of all U.S. printer market shipments in 1993. Digital's
DECwriter 90ip portable printer is a reliable and ideal solution for
business travelers and those who take work home, to generate critical
output, such as last minute slides for a presentation, and quickly add
information to proposals, contracts and more. It is especially appropriate
for optimizing the mobile computing environments of sales, insurance, real
estate and banking personnel.

The DECwriter 90ip printer features a print speed of 2 pages-per-minute,
300 x 300 dpi resolution for high-quality printing, and an integral auto
sheet feeder that holds up to 15 sheets of paper so no manual loading is
required. The printer's battery or AC power operation allows for complete
portability and convenience. In addition, the DECwriter 90ip printer ships
with a Windows 3.1 driver, HP PCL-3 emulation and a parallel interface for
PC compatibility, and is EPA Energy Star compliant.

"Digital is committed to enabling its customers to print wherever they
work," said Dave Sweeney, vice president, Digital's Printer Business. "We
will continue to deliver industry leading printers that meet the evolving
needs of today's computing environments."

Suggested list price for the DECwriter 90ip printer is $340. The DECwriter
90ip printer is scheduled to be available through Digital's U.S. retail
