AT&T CommVault Announces First Enterprise-wide Backup Storage Solution for
Banyan

New AT&T CommVault for Banyan VINES is Unique: Allows IS Managers to
Automatically Backup to Optical from any Location

Eatontown, NJ -- Nov. 10, 1994 -- AT&T CommVault today announced AT&T
CommVault for Banyan VINES, the first enterprise-wide storage management
solution for Banyan VINES environments (Native, Open and ENS). AT&T
CommVault for Banyan allows IS managers and systems administrators to
automatically backup data to optical from any location. Previously the
only way to backup the typically large Banyan networks was to manually
exchange up to hundreds of tapes every day. AT&T CommVault for Banyan is
the most recent addition to the CommVault line, a complete suite of
automated and network-aware products for dozens of operating systems and
platforms

"AT&T CommVault for Banyan removes the often extremely cumbersome task of
backing up some of the largest corporate networks by hand," said Dave
Ireland, Vice President of AT&T CommVault. "Sometimes tapes are being
exchanged by hand in the middle of night by custodial personnel, or even
worse, by systems administrators. In some Banyan environments, this has
been the situation for seven years."

AT&T CommVault for Banyan VINES now delivers a reliable, fully automated
solution that sharply reduces backup and restoration times and minimizes
systems administrator intervention. Using AT&T CommVault for Banyan VINES,
backups are easily scheduled and on-demand backups can be performed
securely without having to take the filesystems offline. Parallel backups
can be executed across multiple Banyan servers and heterogeneous file
servers. All the activities can be controlled from a single point
(DOS/Windows client).

"Banyan networks are typically large -- sometimes with as many as 50,000
clients," said Randy DeMeno, Director of Enterprise Solutions for AT&T
CommVault. "The average installation includes 15-25 servers with both
local and wide area networking including X.25, ISDN and SNA and often the
networks are global. Using a highly automated optical-disk based backup
system makes a lot of sense for Banyan environments."

The enterprise-wide storage solutions market is expanding rapidly because
administrators want to be able to manage their backup resources from any
location, using whatever platform they want. This is an issue of
especially increasing concern among Banyan users.

AT&T CommVault for Banyan VINES is a complete enterprise-wide data
management solution. Optical platters can be mounted easily as NFS optical
drives, and AT&T CommVault supports mixed vendor environments that include
Banyan as well as Netware 2.x - 4.x , AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and SCO. AT&T
CommVault also offers VMS and Novell support.

Headquartered in Eatontown, NJ, AT&T CommVault systems is a strategic
business unit of AT&T Network Systems. Its fully integrated line of
network storage management solution address the growing need to provide
users with rapid access to vast volumes of online data within distributed
client/server environments. AT&T CommVault software and system integration
technololgy empower systems administrators and IS managers to productively
and cost-effectively manage all online, near line and offline storage
processes.

AT&T CommVault products support any UNIX, Novell, DOS and VMS network and
provide automated backup and restoration, hierarchical storage, on-line
and near-line archiving, and volume management. Since the development of
the original product in 1988, AT&T CommVault has provided storage
management solutions to over 100 sites with thousands of servers.
