Weitek Licenses Indeo From Intel

Weitek's Video POWER Chip and Indeo Video Technology Provide TV-Quality
Video Playback on the PC

SUNNYVALE, CALIF.--October 4, 1994--Weitek Corporation (NASDAQ: WWTK)
announced today that it has licensed Indeo video technology from Intel
Corporation for use with Weitek's Video POWER digital video accelerator
chip. This agreement permits Weitek to design Indeo specifications into
the Video POWER silicon. The combination of Indeo and Video POWER delivers
television-quality video playback to PC platforms.

Intel's Indeo video is a widely supported digital video format that allows
for software-only video playback on Pentium processor and Mel CPU-based
personal computers. Indeo is supported in Microsoft's Video for Windows,
IBM's OS/2 R2.1 and Video In, Apple Computer's QuickTime for Macintosh and
QuickTime for Windows, and Novell's Netware. With the fully DCI-compliant
Video POWER chip, Indeo video can take full advantage of PC graphics
hardware and software, allowing it to provide a full solution for
full-screen, TV-quality video playback.

Video POWER is a dedicated coprocessor that dramatically improves the
performance and quality of full-motion digital video running under
Microsoft's Video for Windows in a Weitek POWER 9100-equipped environment.
The Weitek POWER 9100 is a 64- bit, fully-integrated graphics accelerator
which provides a single-chip true color solution for the professional
desktop.

"We are delighted that Weitek, a recognized leader in the graphics
industry, has licensed the Indeo technology and brand," said Claude
Leglise, multimedia program director for Intel. "Video POWER has made our
demos extremely successful by enhancing Indeo video's capabilities. The
combination of a Pentium processor-based PC, Indeo video Release 3.2 and a
high-performance graphics subsystem incorporating the Weitek Video POWER
accelerator chip delivers full-screen, full-motion playback of Indeo
format clips with impressive quality. "

"From an industry with no clear codec standards, Indeo has emerged as a
strong player in multimedia. Weitek is proud to support the Indeo codec
and is committed to bringing the Video POWER solution to more PC
multimedia users," stated Saul Altabet, manager of strategic marketing at
Weitek Corporation. "Weitek's Video POWER coprocessor allows digital video
applications to run full-screen images at thirty frames per second and
with resolutions up to 1280 x 10?4."

In addition to Indeo video, Video POWER also supports other leading codec
formats: MPEG, Motion JPEG and Supermac's Cinepak.

Video POWER can be found in Diamond Multimedia Systems' Viper ProVideo,
miro Computer Products' miroCRYSTAL 20PV avi, IBM-Japan's Personal
System/V, and Sigma Design's Imaging Systems V64.
