PatchEZE 1.01 is a bug fix version for those GUSers having problems
installing the software (there was a problem with some versions of the
UltraSound installation), or with the MIDI in/output (problem with other
MIDI drivers being used). If you haven't had any problems in these two
areas, then don't bother getting the new version.

If you DO get the new version and you have already installed PatchEZE, be
sure to read the upgrade section in INSTALL.TXT before reinstalling.

Or, for those who don't even know what PatchEZE IS - how could you have
missed out on it? Information follows...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCING: PATCHEZE

- a revolutionary patch management system -
- for owners of the Gravis Ultrasound -

What IS PatchEZE?

PatchEZE is an application for Microsoft Windows 3.1 that enables you to
select Ultrasound patches to use for each MIDI program number (or
instrument). Patches can come from any directory on your hard drive, and
there is NO need to exit Windows, or modify your ULTRASND.INI file.

How Does It Work?

Two directories are kept on your hard drive, one for all your normal Gravis
supplied patches, and one for your custom patches. These directories are
switched around so that at any one time your MIDI directory could contain
the Gravis patches, or the custom ones. Hence, you can still use other
programs (such as emulators like MegaEM) that require the Gravis patches.

PatchEZE performs patch copying (to the patch working directory for custom
patches) for you, and because TWO directories are kept, there is no need
to keep backups whatsoever.

Main Features

 + Advanced Patch Mapping
   - Click the "Map" button to map the currently selected
patch file to the selected instrument. The patch will be
copied to the patch working directory for you.
   - Click the "Gravis" button to use the default Gravis patch
     for the selected instrument.
   - The "Duplicate Mapping" menu selection lets you use the
same patch for two instruments without having to "Map" it
     twice.
 + Patch Library Maintenance Features
   - Edit long (60 char) and short (16 char) descriptions for
each patch. If you make correct use of this feature you
won't need to always listen to a patch to know which one
it is, or how it sounds.
   - Edit the instrument names that will be displayed to make
them more appropriate if you have instrument patches not
part of the General MIDI instrument set.
   - One of the suggested patch management systems can be
     set up during installation.
   - Patch installation features make copying patches to special
directories easy. Just click the "Install" button and the
selected patch will be copied to whatever directory you
have set for the selected instrument! If you use one of
the suggested patch management systems, these will all
     be set up for you.
   - A handy "Zoom to dir" button is provided to instantly take
you to the directory of patches you like to use for the
     selected instrument.
 + Patch Auditioning
   - Audition patches with an external MIDI keyboard, or
by using the "Audition" button and scrollbar.
 + Patch Sets!
   - Save your favourite patch mappings to a patch set file so
that you can set up custom patches for certain MIDI songs
just by loading the corresponding patch set!
 + Full Documentation
   - All the information you need to know on how to run PatchEZE
is provided On-Line in a comprehensive help file.

Shareware

PatchEZE is not free, but it also isn't expensive. Actually, for all the
features it provides, it is very inexpensive shareware. It is free for
evaluation purposes only for the first 14 days, after which, you must
register. Registration is only $A20 or $US15.
