lNTERMEC AND PROXIM EXPAND STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP

Intermec to Integrate Proxim's RangeLAN2 2.4 GHz Technology

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, October 24, 1994 -- Proxim, Inc., the leader in wireless
local area networking, today announced an expanded strategic relationship
with Intermec, a premier manufacturer of barcode-based data collection
hardware and software and currently one of Proxim's largest OEM
customers.

Under terms of the expanded agreement between the companies, Intermec will
integrate Proxim's state-of-the-art 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) frequency hopping
RangeLAN2 technology into Intermec's award-winning JANUS family of
hand-held data collection computers. The agreement also enables Intermec
to market customized versions of Proxim's RangeLAN2/PCMCIA, RangeLAN2/ISA
and RangeLAN2/Access Point products through Intermec's worldwide
distribution channels. Intermec currently offers a broad range of spread
spectrum RF data collection products in the U.S. utilizing Proxim's 902
megahertz (MHz) direct sequence radio technology.

"We are gratified that Intermec, one of the largest and most successful
data collection companies worldwide, has once again selected Proxim as its
strategic technology partner for wireless networking technology," said
David King, Proxim' s president and CEO. "Because the 2.4 GHz frequency
band has been opened up both domestically and internationally for
high-bandwidth wireless LAN applications, we expect our relationship with
Intermec to expand significantly in both geographic scope and applications
diversity."

Intermec is a recognized leader in bar-code data collection technology in a
variety of major commercial markets such as manufacturing, warehousing and
transportation, and is an exclusive supplier to a number of key government
applications. With the movement to open architectures, client/server
systems and higher bandwidth applications throughout these markets,
Intermec undertook an extensive survey of high-speed 2.4 GHz wireless
communications technology before selecting Proxim.

"After our exhaustive search for best-of-class wireless networking
technology, we chose Proxim's products based on the superior throughput,
coverage and mobility of the RangeLAN2 architecture," said Tim Koogle,
Intermec's president. "This decision has additional significance for us
because of Proxim's commitment to supporting industry standards worldwide
such as the IEEE 802.11 proposal and ETSI, the recently-approved European
specification. It provides Intermec customers with yet another example of
our intention to support open systems."

New Products

Under the expanded agreement between the companies, Intermec will first
integrate a single-piece OEM version of the RangeLAN2/PCMCIA product into
Intermec's JANUS family of PC-compatible hand-held data collection
computers with built-in scanner and keypad. This PCMCIA OEM module is the
size of a PCMCIA Type III card and is integrated into a Type III slot on
the JANUS products.

The JANUS hand-held computer family will communicate with RangeLAN2/Access
Points, RangeLAN2/PCMCIA adapters and RangeLAN2/ISA cards installed in
Intermec customer sites. In the future, Intermec will integrate Proxim's
RangeLAN2 technology into a variety of other hand-held devices and network
infrastructure products.

Proxim's RangeLAN2 family is designed for high-performance wireless LAN
applications. Based on secure, interference-immune frequency hopping
spread spectrum technology in the 2.4 GHz band, RangeLAN2 offers the
longest range, highest throughput, and most advanced wireless network
architecture of any product in its class. RangeLAN2 delivers an
uncompressed data rate of 1.6 megabits per second (Mbps) per channel
across 15 channels, creating an aggregate network bandwidth of 24 Mbps,
with state-of-the-art features such as high-speed seamless roaming, power
management and site survey diagnostics.
