PROXIM AND POST SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE TO BRING
HIGH SPEED WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY TO RETAIL POINT-OF-SALE ENVIRONMENTS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 10, 1994 -- Proxim, Inc., the leader in
wireless local area networking, today announced the formation of a
strategic alliance with Post Software International (PSI) to provide
high-speed wireless communications capabilities to advanced point-of-sale
(POS) workstations and terminals. This alliance will enable PSI, a
worldwide retail systems integrator and innovator, to provide retailers
with advanced, standards-based, retail POS platforms with wireless
communications technology as an inexpensive, mobile and configurable
alternative to hard-wired POS systems. In turn, this alliance provides
Proxim with an immediate and broad accessibility to the retail marketplace
in the U.S. and overseas.

"Our alliance with Post Software reflects the growing global market
requirement for innovative POS computing and communications systems that
meet retailers' expanding needs," said David King, president and CEO of
Proxim. "Proxim is pleased to form this strategic alliance with Post
Software, a recognized world-wide leader in retail systems solutions."

Under the alliance, Post Software will license and imbed Proxim' s wireless
technology, including the recently announced RangeLAN2/OEM 2.4 gigahertz
(GHz) wireless LAN adapter, into its Pieces & Parts and Brain Transplant
POS product offerings. PSI will have this support available by the second
quarter of 1995. On the server side, PSI will use Proxim's
RangeLAN2/Access Point, a transparent bridge product for
protocol-independent wireless access to Ethernet LANs.

RangeLAN2/OEM, announced in September, features a data rate of 1.6 megabits
per second (Mbps) per channel, expandable to 24 Mbps of aggregate
bandwidth. RangeLAN2/OEM also includes unmatched seamless roaming
capability and sophisticated power management features. The extremely
compact size (3.75" x 2.2" x 0.36") and light weight (just 1.5 ounces)
make it ideal for integration into PSI's retail POS platforms.

Proxim's RangeLAN2 family of products were the first to incorporate the
high speed, frequency hopping modulation technique approved by the IEEE
802.11 committee as part of its proposed draft standard in March 1994.
Furthermore, Proxim's Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance
(CSMA/CA) protocol closely resembles the Media Access Control (MAC) layer
proposal included in the current draft standard. This standards-based
approach was a critical factor in PSI's decision to choose Proxim's
wireless technology for its retail POS platforms.

"By combining Proxim's RangeLAN2 family of products with our Pieces & Parts
and Brain Transplant platforms, we can provide our retail customers with
workstation capabilities at the POS without pulling a single wire. This is
a dramatic development and a true breakthrough for the retail industry,"
said Horace Clemmons, president of Post Software International. "With this
high-speed communications capability in place, the promise of open
architecture -- including upgradability to Windows-based graphical user
interfaces and next-generation multimedia capabilities for retail POS --
is virtually assured."

In today's retail environment, the escalating costs to rewire retail
outlets so they can support wire-based architectures is more than most
retailers are willing to bear. The emergence of new graphical user
interfaces -- which require high data rates -- is opening a new world of
possibilities, including multimedia sales training with full-color
graphics capabilities at the point-of-sale. All of these challenges point
to wireless communications capabilities as a solution.

The use of wireless communications technology is not new to the retail
industry. In fact, PSI has offered radio-based communications products to
its customers in the past. These earlier wireless products were usually
based on proprietary message-based technologies. By selecting Proxim's
RangeLAN2 family of products, PSI is able to offer a standards-based, open
architecture product that enables retailers to migrate from proprietary
technologies to open, client/server-based solutions. PSI will continue to
provide support to its current customer base, which has implemented a
902-928 MHz radio technology, and will provide a migration path for
customers without compromising the working standards adopted by the
radio-based LAN suppliers.

RangeLAN2 Product Family

Proxim is the leading supplier of wireless spread spectrum radio networking
products for local area environments and is at the forefront of the
emerging wireless LAN market. In June 1993, Proxim introduced RangeLAN2, a
family of high performance wireless LAN products designed for the office
environment. The RangeLAN2 family includes RangeLAN2/PCMCIA for notebook
and handheld computers, RangeLAN2/ISA for desktop PCs and servers,
RangeLAN2/Access Point, a transparent bridge product for
protocol-independent wireless access to Ethernet LANs, and RangeLAN2/OEM,
a 2.4 GHz wireless LAN adapter that allows developers to easily
incorporate sophisticated wireless networking capabilities into PCs,
portable computer platforms and handheld data terminals.
