IBM DELIVERS NEW VERSIONS OF ITS POWERPC RISC MICROPROCESSORS

FISHKILL, N.Y., October 10, 1994 - IBM Corporation today announced
availability and pricing for its 100 MHz PowerPC 601, 100 MHz PowerPC 604
and 66 and 80 MHz PowerPC 603 microprocessors. In addition, IBM also
released new PowerPC microprocessor prices for the quarter.

With the addition of these new processors to its PowerPC family, IBM
delivers a growing suite of PowerPC microprocessors addressing a range of
applications. The PowerPC 601, 603 and 604 microprocessors are targeted at
a broad spectrum of computer systems, from low-voltage notebooks to
high-performance workstations.

"Our aim is to give our customers a complete family of RISC microprocessors
that deliver twice the performance of comparably priced CISC
microprocessors," said Fred Sporck, director of PowerPC microprocessors,
IBM Microelectronics Division. "These new products strengthen our
offerings in the workstation and server market segments and extend our
capability into the high-performance desktop PC space. In the case of the
PowerPC 604 in particular, no microprocessor on the market today comes
close to its current price/performance."

The PowerPC 604 microprocessor is designed for high-end desktop systems,
midrange servers and high-performance graphics workstations. At 100 MHz,
the PowerPC 604 CPU achieves an estimated SPECint 92 rating of 160 and an
estimated SPECfp 92 rating of 165 with a secondary cache. The 604 is
available in sample quantities now, and is on track to begin production in
December. It is priced at $549 in quantities of 1,000.

The 100 MHz PowerPC 601 microprocessor is designed for high-performance
desktop systems. It achieves an estimated SPECint 92 rating of 105 and an
estimated SPECfp 92 rating of 125 with a secondary cache. The 100 MHz
PowerPC 601 microprocessor is available in sample quantities now and is
set to begin production in November. Pricing in quantities of 1,000 for
the 100 MHz PowerPC 601 is $399. The 50, 66 and 80 MHz PowerPC 601
microprocessors are available in volume production today. Fourth quarter
pricing in quantities of 1,000 are $165 for the 50 MHz and 66 MHz versions
and $249 for the 80 MHz version.

The PowerPC 603 is the highest performing microprocessor specifically
designed for mobile and energy-conscious applications. It uses just 3
watts of power and delivers an estimated SPECint 92 rating of 75 and an
estimated SPECfp 92 rating of 85 with a secondary cache. The 66 MHz and 80
MHz versions of the PowerPC 603 microprocessor are set to begin production
in November. Fourth quarter pricing in quantities of 1,000 is $165 for the
66 MHz version and $195 for the 80 MHz version.

PowerPC microprocessors will run applications for Apple's System 7) and
IBM's AIX operating systems, as well as DOS, Solaris, Taligent, Microsoft
Windows, Windows NT and OS/2 for PowerPC.

Companies who have announced that they are developing PowerPC
microprocessor-based systems and subsystems include: Apple, Canon, DayStar
Digital, FirePower Systems, Inc., Groupe Bull, Harris, Hitachi, IBM,
Parsytec, Tadpole, Thomson-CSF, Toshiba and YARC. In addition, the
Taiwanese New PC Consortium has announced its endorsement of the PowerPC
architecture and China's Ministry of Electronics Industry has agreed to
help promote the use of PowerPC technology and promote the development of
supporting software in China.
