Cheshire Engineering begins shipping Neuralyst for Excel v1.4, combining
genetic search algorithms with neural network

September 1994 (Pasadena, California) -- Cheshire Engineering Corporation
has released Version 1.4 of Neuralyst for Excel. The latest version of
Neuralyst for Excel, version 1.4, features a major enhancement to
Neuralyst for Excel by integrating genetic search algorithms as a neural
network training supervisor in order to identify the optimal neural
network for a given model.

In addition to genetic search technology, version 1.4 now includes symbolic
representations, so that a model developer can retain natural text labels,
and user selectable choice of fixed point or floating point arithmetic for
computations, allowing optimal selection of speed or ultimate precision.
There are numerous other enhancements, including: improved management of
data scaling, additional activation functions, increased neural network
size, increased data capacity, and assorted performance enhancements.

As with previous versions of Neuralyst for Excel, version 1.4 integrates
with Excel and adds neural network capabilities through the Excel menu
interface. Data present in the spreadsheet is passed to a separate program
which performs the neural network analysis with highly optimized routines
written in C. The data is then transferred back to the spreadsheet. All
Excel formulas, charts, and macro functions are available to the user for
pre-processing, post-processing, charting and program automation.

Neuralyst for Excel is available for both Macintosh and Windows systems.
Neuralyst for Excel V1.4 is priced at $195. Registered users of prior
versions of Neuralyst for Excel may upgrade for $65.

Neural networks are an adaptive artificial intelligence technology capable
of learning and recognizing patterns and relationships in complex,
real-world data and environments. Modeled after the behavior of biological
neurons, neural networks have seen a major surge in interest as new
applications have been found. Neural network technology is now being
applied in a host of applications, including: adaptive control system,
self-training expert systems, trend forecasting, risk analysis, signature
analysis, behavior correlation and pattern recognition.
