NEC INTRODUCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST PLUG AND PLAY MONITORS

Launch Celebrates 10 Years of MultiSync Leadership

Wood Dale, Ill., Oct. 4, 1994 -- Building on ten years of technical
excellence and innovation, NEC Technologies, Inc. (NECT) today introduced
the industry' s first Plug and Play monitors, the new MultiSync X series
of color monitors designed to put control of the monitor in the hands of
the user and provide a better computing experience.

The MultiSync X series includes the XE or "Enterprise" series targeted to
the mainstream market, and the MultiSync XP or "Professional" series
targeted to the power graphics users. In addition to Plug and Play, the
MultiSync XE and XP series includes state-of-the-art On-Screen Manager
(OSM) and MonitorManager software, which allow for greater ease of
adjustment of color, image, size, position and screen geometry. NECT's
MultiSync XP series also supports ACCESS.bus technology, the most advanced
peripheral connection standard.

"NECT has fully embraced the Windows95 technology by providing the first
monitors to support the Plug and Play standard and incorporate ACCESS.bus
technology," said Wayne Hinson, director of NECT's Graphics Group. "Our
goal is to provide intelligent monitors that are effortless to set up and
use - monitors that merely need to be "plugged in" and not "installed."
Hinson continued, "Most people are not aware that they are accelerating
fatigue by looking at low refresh rates on their screens. Plug and Play
technology resolves that issue by providing immediate and easy access to
the highest refresh rates offered by the new X series of NEC MultiSync
monitors."

NECT launched the first line of MultiSync monitors in 1985. Since then, the
company has shipped more than three million monitors worldwide. MultiSync
technology innovations include flat square technology (1986), digital
controls (1988), Reduced Magnetic Fields (1990), AccuColor (1991),
DPI-On-The-Fly software (1992), Intelligent Power Management and OptiClear
screen surface (1993).

NECT's MultiSync Value series of products continues to target the
fast-growing mainstream and small office/home office market with the
MultiSync 2V and 3V, and also offers the unequaled image quality,
multiple-platform compatibility and reliability for which NEC MultiSync
monitors are known.

The MultiSync X Series monitors are PC and Mac ready and meet MPR II, TCO
92 (with the MultiSync Monitor lens), ISO 9241-3, EnergyStar and Nutek,
the latest ergonomic standard, and come with NECT's outstanding three year
limited warranty.

MultiSync XP Professional Series

The MultiSync XP Professional series of monitors, designed for professional
power users demanding the finest image quality and the most advanced
features and capabilities, is available in the 15-inch MultiSync XP15
(13.8" active display area or ADA), 17-inch MultiSync XP17 (15.6" ADA) and
21-inch MultiSync XP21 (19.8" ADA) versions. The XP series provides the
exceptional image quality needed for page layouts and document imaging
applications and boasts the highest resolution - up to a precise 1600x1200
- and maximum refresh rates, up to 160 Hz. Perfect for CAD/CAM
applications, these monitors incorporate the latest technologies including
Plug and Play, ACCESS.bus, On-Screen Manager controls and MonitorManager
Software. The new MultiSync XP21 also includes GlobalSync, NECT's
technology that dynamically corrects distortion and color impurity created
by the earth's magnetic field, for the best possible image.

MultiSync XE Enterprise Series

Continuing NECT's tradition of providing a high performance monitor with
leading edge technology for the corporate marketplace, the 15-inch
MultiSync XE15 (13.8" ADA), 17-inch MultiSync XE17 (15.6" ADA) and 21-inch
MultiSync XE21 (19.8" ADA) monitors all feature NECT's award-winning flat
square CRT technology, Plug and Play, and On-Screen Manager and
MonitorManager software. The MultiSync XE21 also features GlobalSync.

FEATURES

o Plug and Play

MultiSync XE and XP monitors feature monitor Plug and Play, a standard
developed by NECT and adopted by the Video Electronics Standards
Association (VESA) and Microsoft for Windows95. Plug and Play instantly
establishes communication between the monitor and operating system,
optimizing screen performance and enabling monitor installation without
using drivers or diskettes. Via Plug and Play technology, the monitor
communicates its capabilities to the system which automatically optimizes
video performance, color characteristics, resolution and refresh rates,
virtually eliminating configuration headaches.

o On Screen Manager (OSM)

On-Screen Manager (OSM) puts image and color control directly in the hands
of the user through an easy to understand and use graphic interface.
Through OSM, animated icons demonstrate the adjustments being made while
users receive feedback via numeric reading of settings and a scroll bar
that show the changes as corrections are made. The end user can fine tune
up to thirteen image adjustments to create a custom visual environment.

OSM also provides five user-definable or industry standard color
temperatures, featuring numeric and visual feedback through enhanced
AccuColor technology giving the user the opportunity to adjust the
monitor's red, green and blue phosphor guns in precise digital steps to
configure on-screen colors to personal preference. OSM is accessible in
six languages - German, Italian, Swedish, Spanish, French and English.

o ACCESS.bus Technology

ACCESS.bus technology is an advanced industry peripheral connection
standard that allows two-way communications between the operating system
and peripheral devices. The MultiSync XP series of monitors are the first
monitors with ACCESS.bus capability.

Users will be able to plug in up to 125 peripherals using the ACCESS.bus
peripheral connection standard, eliminating wiring constraints and
maximizing future expandability. Hot-plugging capability will give the
ACCESS.bus peripheral immediate access to the system without rebooting or
installing drivers. The XP series also includes Image Manager software
which allows the monitor to be controlled by a keyboard or mouse.

o MonitorManager Software

MonitorManager Software, developed by NECT, manages the monitor functions
on the MultiSync XE and XP series for both PC and Mac markets, and
includes Resolution Manager, Power Manager, Color Manager and Image
Manager applications. Resolution manager and Power Manager ship with the
XE series while all four modules ship with the XP series.

The Power Manager module allows the monitor to automatically shift to
significantly reduce energy consumption when no user activity is detected
by the computer, saving up to 90 percent of a monitor's energy costs when
the monitor is idle. Following EnergyStar and the more rigorous Nutek
standards, NECT has built in the ability for the user to program on and
off settings to match individual schedules. Power Manager allows the user
to realize energy savings without an EnergyStar compliant system.

The Color Manager module on the MultiSync XP series includes Colorific,
visual calibration software, which matches monitor color to color printer
output and creates personalized profiles for color management systems
including Kodak CMS and Apple ColorSync. Colorific for the MultiSync XE
series is available upon request for no additional charge.

The Image Manager module also included with the MultiSync XP series, is
software that, through the ACCESS.bus technology allows the user to adjust
size, position color and geometry, and save these settings as a custom
profile, using either the keyboard or mouse and without touching the
monitor.

The Resolution Manager module is available through DPI-On-The-Fly software,
offering resolution switching "on the fly" for the Mac market. Resolution
manager allows the user to optimize the resolution for each application,
making multi-frequency technology an active productivity tool. It also
provides the opportunity to reconfigure resolution and color depth based
on the user's application needs to achieve the system's optimal
performance.

o OptiClear

For the first time, both the XE and XP series, including the 15" products
offer the OptiClear surface designed to eliminate glare and maximize
contrast, sharpness and color saturation.

The monitors feature an Invar shadow mask to ensure delivery of superior
brightness. For the 17" and 21" monitors, the dual dynamic beam focus
provides a consistent sharp image, edge to edge and corner to corner.
Super high refresh rates and a fine .28mm dot pitch push these new
MultiSync Monitors into the future with sharper, more detailed
flicker-free images.

Accessories

Available with the MultiSync line is the MultiSync Monitor Lens, the first
and only monitor/lens combination to meet TCO 92 guidelines for monitor
emissions. The custom design complements the MultiSync monitor while
increasing image contrast.

NECT's AudioTower speaker system, the ideal multimedia speakers, feature
pop-up, easy to reach controls for balance, treble and bass and were
designed by IDEO, complementing the MultiSync X series of monitors. With a
built-in power supply, amplifier and dual stereo inputs, these speakers
deliver super high-fidelity and eliminate the vibration interference found
with traditional, built-in speakers. The AudioTower system is an excellent
compliment to all MultiSync monitors including the MultiSync MT Multimedia
Theater.
