Vancouver, B.C. -- October 21, 1994 -- Microplex Systems Ltd. announces the
release of the M204 print server, the first multi-protocol print server
with dual Type II PCMCIA slots. These two slots can be used with any
combination of PCMCIA cards. The initial M204 firmware version supports
Token Ring and Ethernet cards.

The M204 has a comprehensive set of management features and is equipped
with four ports and up to 256 print queues. This capacity is optimized
through a feature called Load Balancing which directs print jobs to an
idle port if the current port is busy with another print job. Logging and
page counting features allow departments to keep track of usage and
individual printer expenses. Monitoring and status reporting via
back-channeling, SNMP, and SMTP email provides information for print
queues, error condition, off-line, paper out, etc. This information can be
output to log files, one of the serial ports, or to a designated email
address. Multiple virtual printer destinations can be pre-configured
within the M204 to perform ASCII to PostScript conversion, font or tray
selection, and automatic switching to desired emulation mode. LAN Managers
can control access to the M204 with multi-level password security, user
list, and data scrambling.

Future firmware enhancements of the M204 will permit routing between Token
Ring and Ethernet LANs, enabling printers to be shared between dissimilar
networks or subnets without gateways, local routers or bridges. The
versatility of the M204 will permit Microplex to provide support for:
PCMCIA modems (allowing printers to be located and accessed at remote
offices without the need for separate routers, modems, and workstations),
wireless, SCSI, ISDN, and other emerging technologies as the market
demands.

Simultaneous support for TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, AppleTalk, and NetBIOS tunneling
over TCP/IP makes the M204 compatible with Unix, Novell, Macs, Windows NT,
Windows for Workgroups, or any other systems that support TCP/IP. The two
high speed IEEE 1284 compliant parallel ports provide bi-directional
communications with any printers supporting this standard. Dual 38,400bps
serial ports support printers and can provide terminals with access to
Unix systems.

The PCMCIA Token ring card option for the M204 supports 16/4 LANs. The two
PCMCIA Ethernet cards offered as options for the M204 support 10Base-T or
10Base2.

The base M204 starts at US $595 and begins shipping in November 1994.
