Micro Data Base Systems, Inc. announces release of TITANIUM Multi-Model
Client/Server Database Engine

October 15, 1994 -- West Lafayette, IN -- Micro Data Base Systems, Inc.
(mdbs) will announce the release of its TITANIUM client/server database
engine at DB Expo in New York City on December 6-8, 1994. Targeted at ISV
developers of complex applications, TITANIUM's unique architecture
supports hierarchical, network, relational, and object-oriented data
structures within a single physical data repository. The result is a
highly efficient storage mechanism that offers extremely high performance,
regardless of the selected architecture of the deployed application.

Developers of complex applications requiring a high-performance data
repository will find that the TITANIUM database engine offers considerable
advantages over traditional relational systems. TITANIUM's architecture
and Dynamic Pointer Array technology, coupled with its open access,
graphical CASE tool, and suitability for rehosting non-relational
mainframe databases, make it an attractive option for serious developers
whose needs are not well served by existing technologies on the market.

Multi-model Architecture: TITANIUM supports hierarchical, network,
relational, and object-oriented data structures within a single physical
data repository. This design is particularly well suited to applications
requiring a highly efficient repository for complex data relations. For
example, many-to-many data relationships can be directly modeled by
TITANIUM without cumbersome indexes and join tables.

DPA Technology: This efficiency is achieved by the use of patent pending
Dynamic Pointer Array (DPA) technology. The DPA is the core of the
TITANIUM engine; by prejoining data elements when the database is created,
the DPA ensures an extremely flexible, low-overhead data repository with
unmatched retrieval efficiency.

SQL Access: TITANIUM supports the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)
standard for truly open access. Among the many industry standard tools
end-users can use against the database are: Microsoft Access, Trinzinc's
Forest & Trees, and a wide variety of other third-party SQL tools.

Graphical Design Tools: TITANIUM includes a graphical modeling tool for
Microsoft Windows. Developers can point-and-click to create their database
schema and automatically generate native TITANIUM DDL files. This data
modeler is the result of an affiliation with McDonnell Information
Systems, and is one component of MDIS' Pro-IV Workbench multi-user CASE
tool.

Mainframe API Libraries: TITANIUM is particularly well suited to rehosting
non-relational mainframe databases to client/server environments. mdbs
supplies tool kits for facilitating this process even further. Included in
these tool kits are emulation libraries that translate native mainframe
database calls (such as IMS DL/I calls) into TITANIUM calls. These same
tool kits can be used on smaller machines to develop new applications that
are then migrated to the mainframe for final deployment. The evolutionary
approach to application development promoted by these tool kits eliminates
the risk associated with large-scale re-engineering projects.
