October 18, 1994 (Pickerington, OH) - JEC TECH announces a new telephone
line simulator which will allow you to connect two modems together locally
without using phone lines. The LINKER was designed to make this
connection simple for those wishing to test and demonstrate modem hardware
and/or software without tying up two of their valuable telephone lines.
Furthermore, the LINKER can be used with any product that interconnects to
the telephone network such as fax and answering machines, voice call
directors, etc. The LINKER features include:

* 2 lines (one RJ-11 for the originate modem and the other
   RJ-11 jack for the receive modem)
*  Real two tone dialtone (350 and 440 Hertz @ -18 dB)
*  True 20 Hertz ringing voltage (85V peak @ 20 Hz)
*  Automatic or manual operation.

Here's how to connect two modems together:

1. Plug the originate modem into the A RJ-11 jack.
2. Plug the receive modem into the B RJ-11 jack.
3. Operate the A/B switch to the A = SEND position.
4. Operate the AUTO/MANUAL switch to AUTO.
5. Give the send modem the ATDTXXXX command. (It doesn't
    matter what you dial here since it's not going anywhere)
6. Dialtone will be applied to the originate modem for
    approximately 2.5 seconds allowing it to dial out.
7. At the same time, ringing will be applied to the receive
    modem to signal it.
8. A connection will be established after they decide what
    baud rate to use.

The LINKER has been used to make connections at 28.8K baud without
experiencing any problems. It sells for $185.00 and is available from the
source listed below. Add $5.00 for shipping and handling. Ohio residence
must add the appropriate sales tax.
