Koyn Software has just released a new version of Koyn Fractal Studio, their
graphic design tool for the creation of intricate fractal design elements
on Macintosh computers. The new version, 2.1, provides native execution on
Power Macintosh computers, speeding image rendering ten-fold when
comparing performance achieved on a Power Macintosh 8100/80 to performance
achieved on a 33 Mhz 68040 Macintosh. Koyn Fractal Studio 2.1 is now
shipping.

Fractals are shapes of infinite detail that have patterns of
self-similarity. A fractal is formed as a collage of distorted copies of
itself, giving the effect of receding into infinity with intricate detail.
Koyn Fractal Studio allows the user to create a wide range of detailed
images including abstract geometrical designs and patterns, textures, and
images resembling natural objects and incorporate them into newsletters,
brochures, presentation slides, business cards, advertisements, and
multimedia productions. Fractals are normally created in an interactive
manner using the mouse to manipulate a collage of polygons. Knowledge of
the mathematics of fractals is not required (Mathematically oriented users
are able to edit fractals numerically).

Fractal images are resolution independent. Thus, fractals may be freely
resized in Koyn Fractal Studio without losing detail or resolution. The
zoom function allows the user to zoom in up to one hundred million times
to observe the infinite detail in fractals and copy any portion of a
fractal for use in another application.

Koyn Fractal Studio renders images in up to 24-bit color. Resolution may be
as high as 2540 dpi. Fractals can be transferred into other graphic design
software packages using Copy and Paste or via PICT files. The user may
capture any displayed view of a fractal. PICT files can be imported into
Koyn Fractal Studio 2.1 to be used as templates for fractal designs.

Koyn Fractal Studio includes the Fractal Library, a collection of over 50
premade color fractals. The Fractal Library serves as a source of clip art
and as a starting point for creating new designs. An add-on product,
Deluxe Fractal Library, adds over 50 additional premade color fractals to
the Fractal Library.

The 181 page user guide provides tutorials, a reference section, and
information on fractals.

Koyn Fractal Studio 2.1 requires a Macintosh computer with System Software
version 6.0.5 or later, two floppy drives or one floppy drive with a hard
drive or removable cartridge drive, and 600K or more free memory (RAM).
Koyn Fractal Studio 2.1 can benefit from the presence of a floating point
coprocessor (in 68K Macintosh models) and run native on Power Macintosh
systems.
