IIA 1994 ANNUAL CONVENTION -- "PERILS AND POSSIBILITIES"

WASHINGTON, DC - October 10, 1994 - The 26th Annual Convention of the
Information Industry Association (IIA) will take place on October 23 - 26,
1994, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. IIA '94 "Perils and
Possibilities" will provide invaluable tools to information professionals
shaping the dynamic information industry.

According to IIA President Kenneth B. Allen, "IIA '94 will provide the
strategic insights to help all segments of our industry recognize,
understand and respond to the world's evolving demand for information." He
added, "So many new developments are changing the pace at which the
information industry is moving. The speed of change in the industry has
been matched only by the need of informational professionals to remain
competitive in today's marketplace."

The program for IIA '94 will bring together professionals and companies in
the forefront of the information industry. Highlights include:

Robert Allen, Chairman and CEO, AT&T, as the opening keynote speaker on
Monday morning. 

Other industry leaders who will describe their visions of the information
industry throughout the Convention are:

Joseph Dionne, Chairman and CEO, McGraw-Hill Inc.

Robert J. Frankenberg, President and CEO, Novell Inc.

Mike Maples, Executive Vice President, Microsoft Corporation

A Town Meeting on the Information Age, to be moderated by Ed Reilly,
President, McGraw-Hill Broadcast Group. The Town Meeting brings together
leaders from the public and private sector to discuss the roles and
responsibilities each play in the emerging information society. Confirmed
participants are: Larry Moore, Vice President, InterEnterprise
Communications Group, Lotus Development Corporation; Robert Krulwich,
Financial and Economic Correspondent, ABC News; Mary Lou Joseph, Vice
President of National Affairs, National Public Radio; Bruce Lehman,
Assistant Secretary of Commerce, Commissioner of Patent & Trademark, U.S.
Patent & Trademark Office; Marybeth Peters, Register of Copyright, Library
of Congress; Lawrence Strickling, Vice President, National Public Policy,
Ameritech; and Richard Varn, Director of Telecommunications, The
University of Northern Iowa.

An interview session with three technology reporters questioning four
technology executives on major issues facing the information industry.
Interviewing the executives will be reporters Ester Dyson, Release 1.0;
John Keller, The Wall Street Journal; and Steve Lohr, The New York Times.
Featured technology executives will be Walter Isaacson, Time Inc.; Vinton
Cerf, MCI; John Gage, Sun Microsystems, Incorporated; and Scott Kurnitt,
Prodigy Services Company.

A showcase of the technologies that promises dramatic changes to the
industry with special guest moderator Bruce Francis, host of CNBC's
"Technology Edge."

The 10th Anniversary Deal-Making session - a forum featuring companies
interested in exploring joint ventures, developing marketing arrangements
and making business deals.

A panel of CEOs discussing their specific business concerns as the
information industry approaches the 21st century.

Numerous concurrent sessions addressing the front page issues facing the
information industry: the Internet, the NII, business strategies,
copyright, the consumer marketplace, emerging technologies, NAFTA,
privacy, digital advertising and more.

Registration fees are $895 for IIA members and $1,050 for non-members until
Friday, October 14, 1994. On-site registration fees will be $995 for
