SilverPlatter Hosts International Federation of Library Associations and
Institutions Internet Connection

September 23, 1994 -- With cooperation from SilverPlatter Information, IFLA
announces a list on the Internet that will facilitate an electronic
exchange of information between IFLA and its members and will provide a
forum for IFLA members to communicate with each other. Robert Wedgworth,
IFLA President, announced this development to the 60th General IFLA
Conference in Havana, Cuba noting that "IFLA's objective is to liberate
its member communications from the barriers of time and place."

SilverPlatter is supporting IFLA in establishing this listserv by providing
technical support and computer space in its U.S. office. Leigh Swain,
Director, IFLA Universal Dataflow and Telecommunications (UDT) Core
Programme, commented "Recognizing the power of the Internet, we realized
that it was important for us to set up a communication forum using this
media. Collaborating with SilverPlatter has enabled this to happen."

Gerry Hurley, Director of Educational Services at SilverPlatter, assures
participants in IFLA's Internet conference that SilverPlatter's role is to
facilitate IFLA's listserv. "As the host of this Internet connection, we
have no other role than to help with the technical implementation and
maintenance. However, as a member of the library community, we are also
subscribing to this listserv and in that capacity, will be interested in
what is being said."

In addition to IFLA-L, SilverPlatter will be enabling a selection on its
World Wide Web (WWW) home page for access to IFLA documents. The types of
material that will be available through SilverPlatter's WWW page include
IFLA Conference Papers and newsletters produced by the various IFLA Core
Programmes, Sections, Divisions, and Round Tables. These documents will
also be available on SilverPlatter's FTP server and via e-mail in order to
facilitate access for those without full Internet connections.
