Gold Standard Multimedia Releases Clinical Pharmacology Software

Innovative Drug Information Program Will Improve Patient Care by Saving
Time and Enhancing Education

PRODUCT ID FEATURE HELPS STABILIZE OVERDOSED PATIENT

Gainesville, FL--Gold Standard Multimedia Inc. has announced the release of
Clinical Pharmacology, an electronic drug information quarterly that is
the product of more than two years of work by over 30 contributors.

Clinical Pharmacology is the first originally-written electronic drug
information system with a graphical user interface. It combines
traditional approaches to drug information with the power of the personal
computer and provides an innovative and time-saving drug reference for the
health care community.

Comments from Clinical Pharmacology's initial users have been very
supportive. "Your product is a hit," says Debbie Goad, PharmD, an
assistant professor at the University of Arkansas. Wesley Eastridge, MD, a
physician who evaluated Clinical Pharmacology under the free 30-day trial
available to all practitioners, says, "This is an informative and helpful
program. The amounts and types of information presented are just right for
a practicing physician's needs. The format is neat and convenient, and the
monograph text is well-written."

In addition to these encouraging comments, Gold Standard recently learned
that Clinical Pharmacology's product ID utility had helped in the
identification of some unknown pills in a hospital emergency room. A
patient was unconscious from an overdose of a medication which doctors and
pharmacists could not recognize. The patient had some of the pills left in
his pocket and a pharmacist entered the physical characteristics and code
number (printed on the pills) into the Product ID utility. The utility
found the pill and verified with the color photo that the pill was a
generic brand of alprazolam, an anti-anxiety agent. The doctors then
quickly administered an injection of flumazenil, an antidote to alprazolam
overdose, and the patient stabilized.

The product ID is just one of the many features an extensive staff of
pharmacists, physicians and programmers has contributed to Clinical
Pharmacology during the past two years under the direction of Jonathan
Seymour, MD (Design and Programming), and Stan Reents, PharmD (Managing
Editor). Gold Standard Multimedia Inc. will keep its flagship product
current with quarterly updates written and edited by an in-house staff of
five PharmDs and several specialty editors from clinics and colleges of
pharmacy across the US.

The program contains over 5,000 page-equivalents of drug information,
covering virtually every preparation available in the United States. The
575 most commonly- prescribed drugs receive the most thorough coverage and
there are thousands of "mini-monographs" on less common drugs, combination
preparations and new drugs.

Each drug monograph contains clinically-oriented information about the
drug's mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, indications, dosages,
contraindications, drug interactions, side effects, costs, labeling
information and classifications. Also associated with each monograph is a
complete description of the drug in lay person's terms for patient
counseling.

Additionally, each monograph contains life-size, color photographs of
popular dosage forms, the chemical structure and empirical formula. A
Product ID utility can identify a dosage form based on its physical
characteristics, with verification by the color photo.

To facilitate searching for text in Clinical Pharmacology, all categories
of information (e.g. indications) are fully indexed and cross-referenced
for easy access. This format allows the user to approach the information
in a variety of ways, and to create reports from the various indices (e.g.
"Create a list of the drugs indicated for gastric ulcer").

Clinical Pharmacology stores patient records and drug utilization histories
for each patient. The program can also generate a profile based on the
patient's drug schedule, medical conditions and allergies. This profile
warns of potential drug interactions, predicts what the most likely side
effects will be, gives drug/contraindication and drug/allergy warnings,
compiles cost information, and notifies the clinician if therapy is being
duplicated. Prescription writing also becomes easy with Clinical
Pharmacology, which features a prescription pad that generates neat,
professional-looking prescriptions, prints them, and saves them in a
prescriptions index.

New drugs are highlighted in Clinical Pharmacology, providing a valuable
source of up-to-date information for busy practitioners. All the
information is thoroughly referenced from the current journal literature.
Academic users will appreciate the ability to generate interactive quizzes
which are ideal for both students and health care professionals wishing to
brush up on drug information.

Clinical Pharmacology is available for Macintosh and Windows formats.
Subscriptions, at an affordable price of $295 per year, include the
program and three quarterly updates which will include both content and
features enhancements for subscribers.
