FCC Chairman Learns Lessons of the Information Superhighway

Tours Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow in an Effort to Learn About NII in
Education

CUPERTINO, California--October 13, 1994--FCC Chairman Reed Hundt yesterday
visited an Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) school site at Stevens
Creek Elementary School to learn first-hand how students will benefit by
accessing the National Information Infrastructure (NII). Chairman Hundt
is strongly committed to national efforts to wire every classroom to the
information highway by the year 2000. Hundt has assembled an FCC task
force to work on this challenge.

At the Cupertino elementary school, Hundt observed demonstrations of
students interacting with state-of-the-art technology to enhance learning.
The site is one of several ACOT schools preparing for experiments with
the NII this school year. ACOT is a highly acclaimed program that Apple
Computer, Inc. initiated eight years ago to change the way people think
about and use technology for learning. This living laboratory has become a
valuable source of real-world feedback on the use of technology in
education. Many of the ACOT research findings are now being shared with
public policy makers to help them formulate a national plan for
implementing technology in the schools.

Apple has been working with the FCC and Congress for several years in an
effort to help define communications of tomorrow, including wireless
connections for the classroom. Apple=D5vision is to promote widespread,
cost-effective access to the wealth of multimedia information that resides
around the world via the NII.

Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized pioneer and innovator in the information
industry, creates powerful solutions based on easy-to-use personal
computers, servers, peripherals, software, online services, and personal
digital assistants. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple
