Apple's eWorld Debuts in UK at Apple Expo '94

The Online Service for the Rest of Us

LONDON, UK--October 12, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc. today announced the
introduction of eWorld in the UK. eWorld is an innovative, informative,
powerful, yet easy-to-use online service which includes eWorld for
Macintosh and NewtonMail , eWorld's messaging service for Newton .
eWorld for Macintosh is an 'online town square' which provides a global
electronic mail system together with news, information and other
services.

To celebrate the UK launch, new eWorld members who register before February
15, 1995 will enjoy an introductory trial offer consisting of a $US26.00
credit (for 2 hours of free time) and waiver of the first $US8.95 monthly
minimum fee. eWorld software will be available free of charge. Customers
can call eWorld support line on 0800 896206 in the UK or 800-775-4556 in
the US to receive an eWorld Starter Kit or respond to the business reply
card being given out at AppleExpo.

"eWorld is for people seeking order from the chaos of the vast electronic
universe, who need relevant information rather than volumes of data, and
who are looking for a compelling electronic medium which is easily
accessible anywhere in the world," said Mike Newton, vice president and
general manager Apple Computer UK. "eWorld defines a new user interface
and publishing structure, providing a less complicated and more meaningful
experience for both publishers and subscribers."

More Than 140 Publishers Now Available

eWorld subscribers will be able to access news, business, entertainment and
travel information from more than 140 publishing partners, participate in
real-time discussions with other subscribers and industry experts, explore
libraries of reference works and communicate with other electronic mail
services worldwide. Apple is currently in negotiation with major UK
information providers to bring their content online over the coming
months.

eWorld for Macintosh will be the first in a series of eWorld interactive
services available to personal computer users. eWorld for Macintosh uses
real world images to give users an experience they will immediately feel
comfortable with. The eWorld Community offers individuals the opportunity
to connect people and organisations with similar interests, ideas and
affiliations.

In its tradition of making technology easy for everyone to use, Apple has
hidden the enormous complexity of a global communications network behind a
bright, cheerful town square which has buildings that everybody will
recognise--a Learning Centre, a post office (The Mail Centre), a lifestyle
centre (Living & Leisure Centre), a Business Centre and even an
information booth that tells the user exactly what they need to know about
the online community and how to get the information they need.

Screen Grab of Online Town Square

Once in eWorld for Macintosh and strolling around this 'virtual town
square' users will find information laid out in a friendly yet logical
way. This logic extends beyond presentation and into the content that is
delivered. Publishers will take advantage of the powerful 'eWorld Press'
tools to provide innovative online publications that combine real-time
useful information with analysis, comment and many opportunities for
feedback and response by subscribers. The online publications cover such
areas as news, travel planning information, stock portfolio management,
weather and TV & film reviews.

Internet Communication & Real-time Interaction Users can easily communicate
with users of the Internet with eWorld, as well as many other electronic
mail services. eWorld offers a range of real-time interactive
communications capabilities, including lecture and information sharing
forums, or town meetings, that enable up to 250 people to participate
simultaneously. People can witness lectures, debates, and discussions of
topical issues by experts in a wide variety of fields. Smaller groups of
eWorld users can chat and collaborate electronically in both public and
private forums.

eWorld services will be made available on a range of devices, including
Macintosh personal computers, Windows PCs, and Newton devices, and people
will be able to access common features across the different platforms.
