DK MULTIMEDIA RECREATES LIFE ON 18th-CENTURY FIGHTING SHIP IN NEW CD-ROM
RELEASE

Based on Stephen Biesty's Cross-Sections: Man-of-War, new CD-ROM offers
interactive view of what life at sea was really like

DK Multimedia, a division of Dorling Kindersley Ltd. is introducing a
multimedia version of its best-selling book, Stephen Biesty's
Cross-Sections: Man-of-War, for the CD-ROM platform, titled STEPHEN
BIESTY'S CROSS SECTIONS STOWAWAY! With over 250,00 copies in print,
Stephen Biesty's Cross Sections: Man-of-War was selected as a Best
Illustrated Book of 1993 by the New York Times, and was the #2 best
selling non-fiction book for the 1993 fall season. The highly-visual
CD-ROM allows people to explore an 18th-century British warship. As they
tour the vessel from bow to stern, viewers can interact with characters
from history and search for a hidden stowaway.

With hundreds of illustrations, 150 animation sequences, 20,000 words of
text and over 400 screens and pop-up windows, STEPHEN BIESTY'S INCREDIBLE
CROSS-SECTIONS STOWAWAY! features the intricate detail and artistic
quality that has become a signature trademark for artist Stephen Biesty.
The interface is graphical and user-friendly. Throughout STOWAWAY!, a game
enhances the entertainment value of the program. A stowaway is hidden in
each of the screens ten cross-sections and must be found in all his hiding
places to successfully reach the game's conclusion. The animations,
narrations, and sound effects create and authentic impression of what life
was really like aboard the Man-of-War, one of the most feared fighting
ships of its time.

Complete deck plans and cross-sectional views of the ship allow for easy
navigation throughout the entire vessel, from the upper decks to the musty
depths of the hold. Zoom into individual scenes or cabins to meet the crew
as the ship's characters come to life with the click of the mouse. Read
excerpts from crew members journals, or have the crew tell you about
everyday life aboard the ship. The captain, boatswain, cook, gunner,
surgeon, and many more tell their stories with over two hours of narration
and sound effects.

Intricate illustrations and animation bring history to life detailing the
battles, heroism, and hardship that the ship and its crew lived through.
Fascinating facts and built in glossary add to an educational experience
that is entertaining as well as informative.
