DELL OFFERS CORPORATE CUSTOMERS PENTIUM PROCESSOR-BASED SYSTEMS FOR LESS
THAN $2,000

Extends Pentium Processor Push into the Mainstream Market with
Pentium-based Systems at 486 Price Points

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 10, 1994 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL),
the first company in the industry to break the $2,000 price barrier for a
fully-configured Pentium system, today broke a second record with the
introduction of the OptiPlex 560/L, the first sub-$2,000 Pentium
processor- based system designed for the corporate market. By continuing
to focus on its Pentium processor leadership position, Dell is uniquely
situated to take advantage of the industry's ongoing transition from 486-
to Pentium processor-based systems. Dell believes that the Pentium
processor has now moved to the mainstream of the desktop PC market,
reaching price points previously held by 486-based systems.

The new slimline OptiPlex 560/L follows closely on the heels of the
recently announced OptiPlex 486/e and the OptiPlex X590 family of systems
and represents the final step in the complete replacement of Dell's
corporate desktop offerings. The OptiPlex 560/L systems are available
immediately in the U.S. and Canada. Prices start at $1,970 for an OptiPlex
560/L with 8MB of RAM, a 270MB hard drive, 14" SVGA color monitor, a three
year limited warranty, DOS 6.2, Windows 3.1 and a mouse.

"Today's announcement puts Dell into a new leadership position," said Tom
Martin, Dell's vice president of worldwide marketing. "This past summer,
we were the first to deliver a sub-$2,000 Pentium-based system in our Dell
Dimension line of products and now we are leading the Pentium processor
transition with our corporate line of products. While some vendors are
still struggling to get Pentium processor-based systems into their lineup,
Dell has consistently led the transition to the Pentium processor with the
broadest set of powerful, affordable Pentium-based systems of any major
vendor in the industry."

Dell also announced support for the new 75 MHz Pentium processor --
announced by Intel today --indicating plans to offer the new technology
with its products as the processor becomes widely available.

Designed for mainstream corporate users looking for the highest performance
at the most affordable price, the new OptiPlex 560/L systems offer the
performance and investment value of the Pentium processor at today's 486
price levels. Optimized for basic productivity required for business
computing and networking environments, these systems are ideal for
mainstream business applications such as word processing, spreadsheet
computation and financial modeling.

The new OptiPlex 560/L systems are based on an ISA (Industry Standard
Architecture) bus with PCI (peripheral component interconnect) technology
and include Intel's powerful 60MHz Pentium processor. The Pentium
processor's superscalar architecture can execute up to two instructions
simultaneously, while providing faster memory transfers for improved
performance.

The Pentium processor-based OptiPlex line offers a variety of key features
that corporate customers demand, including high-performance graphics and a
PCI local bus enabling customers to upgrade their systems with additional
high-performance peripherals. In addition, the new OptiPlex products come
with several options designed for corporate customers, which help to
reduce the overall hassle and cost associated with the purchase and
maintenance of their PC. Customers can order their system
custom-configured with their choice of a wide variety of pre-installed
software, peripherals and network interface cards. Dell also offers
compatibility guarantees with leading networking software; customized
service options and a comprehensive asset management program. With its
power management capabilities, the new OptiPlex 560/L systems enable
customers to effectively manage the power consumption of the PC,
minimizing overall system operating costs.

"Corporate customers can get more return on their investment than ever
before," said Doug MacGregor, Dell's vice president of desktop
development. "Our customers can now get a fully configured 60MHz
Pentium-processor based system at price points they are paying for some
486-based systems today. The Pentium processor is now mainstream computing
and Dell is moving the bar once more to what our customers expect --
lasting value at competitive prices."

Mr. MacGregor added that Dell is one of the only major PC manufacturers to
lead on both price and availability, allowing customers to transition to
tomorrow's standard -- today -- without a price penalty.

VALUE-ENHANCING FEATURES

Beyond an aggressive price point, Dell has built added value and
feature-rich capabilities into the new line including Plug and Play
functionality, increased hard drive performance and complete networking
support.

In keeping with simplifying system set-up, the new OptiPlex 560/L desktops
are Plug and Play-capable systems that offer a user-friendly set-up. For
example, when a user installs a new peripheral, the new OptiPlex system
with Plug and Play support can guide users through the installation,
enabling users to easily snap in the card and set addresses and program
interrupt codes, which then allows the new peripheral to communicate with
the rest of the system.

The systems utilize a configuration utility and flash BIOS, which
incorporates Plug and Play software code. With flash BIOS, the system's
basic instruction software can be quickly and easily upgraded -- a feature
particularly important for customers looking to take advantage of the full
Plug and Play features that are expected to be available with Microsoft's
Windows 95 operating system.

Reaching new levels of performance, the new OptiPlex systems are available
with Enhanced IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) technology, which
provides greater disk performance to the OptiPlex 560/L by accelerating
the speed that data can travel through the system and expanding the
capabilities of the simple and cost effective IDE interface. Enhanced IDE
allows for direct connection to other storage devices such as low-cost IDE
CD-ROM drives and high capacity hard drives.

As networking is a vital component of many corporate computing
environments, the OptiPlex systems are available with Dell's recently
announced Network Setup Program. This program offers customers a variety
of products and services designed to help them get up and running on a
network more easily, saving customers time and effort. The Network Setup
program is Dell-developed software that is pre-installed on the hard
drive, enabling PCs to be configured with factory-installed network
interface cards and workstation drivers.

This means that a customer must simply connect the network cable to the PC,
power up the system, make a few simple keystrokes, and the system
automatically identifies the network type, configures itself to the
network, and is ready to go. Dell's Network Setup program supports Banyan
Vines, Novell NetWare and Microsoft Windows for Workgroups network
operating systems.

All new OptiPlex systems come standard with Dell's three-year Limited
Warranty, which includes Dell's standard return-to-factory coverage during
the first year and next-business-day delivery of Dell parts during years
two and three. In addition, the new systems include one-year of next-
business-day on-site service provided by BancTec Service Corporation. Dell
stands behind its award-winning service and technical support with written
guarantees which assure delivery of next-business-day on-site service,
provide quick response for 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week toll-free telephone
technical support, as well as guaranteed system compatibility.

A Global 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) designs,
develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports a complete line of
personal computers compatible with industry standards. Dell is the world's
leading direct marketer of personal computers and one of the top five
personal computer vendors in the world with annual revenues of nearly $3
billion. Information on the company and its products can be obtained
