DESKTOP ENGINEERING ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF VERSION 4.1 OF DE/CAASE
COMPUTERIZED ENGINEERING HANDBOOK

(Mahwah, New Jersey -- September 28, 1994) Desktop Engineering has
announced the release of Version 4.1 of its DE/CAASE computerized
engineering handbook software package. The release of Version 4.1 provides
a completely new graphical user interface that operates in a Windows
environment on UNIX and MS-DOS operating systems. The new version offers
three completely new modules, five major enhancements to existing modules
and a wide range of miscellaneous improvements. The new version will also
add support for Silicon Graphics UNIX platforms in addition to the
previously supported MS-DOS and Intergraph, SUN and IBM UNIX platforms. In
addition, the new version operates on SUN platforms running Solaris 2.2
while the previous version was available on Solaris 1.1.

The new Rectangular Grillages module computes the deflection, shear and
bending moment along the girders and stiffeners of a rectangular grillage
subjected to various loading and boundary conditions. The new Stress
Analysis for Rectangular Grillages module calculates stress intensities
for an output file saved by the rectangular grillages module. The
Superposition - Rectangular Grillages module combines the results of up to
five previously Saved output files from the rectangular grillages module.

The Frames and Trusses module has been upgraded to increase the number of
available nodes and members on UNIX platforms. The Rectangular Plates
modules now have a guided boundary condition option and several other
improvements. The Natural Frequency of Beams, Plates and Critical Speed of
Rotating Shafts modules have two additional input specifications, the
starting frequency and the number of frequencies to be determined, which
provide greater solution capabilities.

DE/CAASE, developed by Desktop Engineering, represents the world's largest
known compilation of solutions to structural/mechanical engineering
applications. It greatly reduces the time required to solve engineering
problems by helping the user select the proper solution, prompting for the
required input, automatically solving the equations and providing
graphical illustrations. The program incorporates solutions to over 5000
structural/mechanical engineering applications for calculating force,
deflection, stress and geometric properties. These solutions have been
rigorously researched from over 100 reference books, representing the
result of theoretical efforts by recognized engineering experts, and have
been independently verified.

It contains over 40 modules grouped into categories including Geometric and
Material Properties; Beams and Columns; Rings, Arches and Frames; Plates,
Shells, Grillages and Pressure Vessels; Natural Frequencies and Dynamics,
Stresses, Cables and Springs; and more.

Desktop Engineering is a software developer and distributor specializing in
engineering applications with headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey. The
company's other products include DE/Mec. DE/Mec allows complex mechanisms
to be designed, analyzed, optimized and animated with virtually zero
learning time for anyone already used to laying out mechanisms on a
traditional drawing board. Desktop Engineering Technical Centers are
located in the United States (New Jersey, Michigan and New York, England
and Canada and the company has representatives throughout Eastern Asia and
Europe. All Desktop Engineering products are available from authorized
dealers located throughout the world. In addition, DE/CAASE is available
through all Navy CAD 2 contracts (NAVSEA, NAVFAC, and NAVAIR). For more
